Protein in urine

Hi!

I am new to all this so please bear with me. I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes last September and, after a urine test the other day, was told my kidneys were leaking protein and I have been put on Ramipril.

Grrrrrr. I am confused. What does it mean to have protein in my urine? Is it dangerous? What are the long term effects?

Sorry for being vague and questioning but I am unsure and am scared.

Think protein in urine is an indication that something is wrong with the kidneys or you are producing too much protein. As you're diabetic it's probably the kidneys.
They don't need much function to regulate things adequately and the tablets should take the pressure off to let them recover a bit.
Kidney damage is serious but hopefully it's been caught early and controlling the bg now could stop it progressing.

Hi Ophipity, :)

Ramipril is normally given to people with high blood pressure.I am on 5mg Ramipril for high blood pressure which apparently in my case (according to my GP) has no connection with my control of Diabetes type2. Although high blood pressure can cause excess protein in your urine.

You will soon get lots of help regarding urine problems, One good tip I got was "keep away from caffeine"

best of luck,
Roy. :)
