had a call the other day to see the doc didnt say why, so went this morning ,i have protein in urine and booking me in for a scan,
what i can remeber doc saying avg person loses 2 % i am losing 40 % scan is to see how bad damge is
should i be worried.

Protein in the urine is a warning sign. It may indicate kidney damage or disease or be a transient elevation due to an infection, medication, vigorous exercise or physical stress. In some people, it may be present during the day and absent at night when the patient is lying down. Leak of protein into the urine on standing which disappears on lying down (orthostatic proteinuria) is commonly seen particularly with increasing age and it carries not health risk. In pregnant women, elevated urine protein levels can be associated with pre-eclampsia.

Try not to worry unduly as sometimes there are simple explanations as to why the protein is present.
 
It is also preferable to have your first morning wee as your sample. I have diabetic nephropathy (kidney disease) and the definitive test is the albumin/creatine ratio. Try not to worry, many minor ailments can increase protein alone ie. Infection or inflammation.
 
first morning wee that was a sample i gave them the other week,
filter not working properly ,guess see what happens at the scan
 
Try not to worry, I am constantly being told I have protein in my urine .. but no one can find anything wrong !!! hope your test go ok
 
Have you changed drug regime or diet, recently? When I was first diagnosed, I went on to metformin and reduced my carb intake by about half. Next wee sample showed protein was present although my bloods were fine; my GP said that it was almost certainly down to change of diet and medication and tests a few weeks later showed everything was back to normal.

As others have said, it's an early warning: better to be aware of the problem and take action than to be unaware.
 
diagnosed end of may ,so last 2 months has been one big change in diet etc, bg levels up an down with the lowest one time of 4.7
best i can do is wait till get the scan done see from there
just started on atorvastatin,naproxen

I had protein in my urine a couple of years ago following a period of really bad control but it 'fixed' itself with tablets and a bit better control.
I don't know how bad 40% is, or if it could be reversed, but don't panic - just see what your doc says.
 
had scan found a sis but that seems clear,left kidney odd shaped but both working well,review in 3 months

When I gave a urine sample and it showed elevated amounts of protein (no idea how much), my GP looked at my kidney function and just said it was probably because I drank lots of water.

Apologies for going totally off topic but I'm interested that your GP booked you in for a scan because in July my GP referred me to a specialist who referred me for a scan, this was meant to be fast track and took 20 days to get to the scan stage then another two weeks to be told I needed surgery. Two weeks after being told, on the morning of surgery, the surgeon said the scan doesn't tell them everything and he didn't know what he would find. So seven weeks after going to GP I was told after surgery that I had a burst appendix, peritonitis and an abscess from the appendix to the duodenum.
I thought at the time if my GP had referred me for the scan at the start, we could have cut a few weeks out of that drawn out process. Once again, apologies for going off topic. Good luck with your scan.
 
scan was done shortly after the doc appointment mid aug ,results were sept,

Thanks for that, even my DN has suggested complaining, but I don't want to complain about anybody in particular, just the system. Your experience seems to suggest that my GP could have referred me for a scan sooner. Maybe as she was a locum, money comes into this somewhere. Who knows.
