Hi all. I've recently started on a fairly strict ketogenic diet again and everything's going fine aside from one thing. I looked up a few solutions online to help resolve my erm... blockage.. and it sound like it's mostly down to the fact that I'm not quite getting enough fiber in my diet. Tried a few days eating a bit more veg than usual, but to no avail.

In a final attempt to help myself out naturally, I ordered 500 psyllium husk capsules from Amazon. They arrived pretty quick and worked great on the first day of taking them (what a relief that was) so I've got my hopes up for them maintaining some kind of 'regularity'.

I was just hoping to hear of the experience you guys have had with psyllium husk, whether in capsules or just the raw ingredient. So far today I just feel very bloated, even after having a light lunch of chicken, spinach and lettuce with a little full fat mayo. Is this the fault of the psyllium husk? Any advice is much appreciated :)

You need to drink a lot of water with psyllium husks.

I'm on my 7th pint of water today - drank 2 pints when I took them this morning :)

I have been making bread from psyllium husk powder recently. Low carb and it actually tastes like bread! It didn't give me the trots, but it is perhaps a bit bloaty. Last night I had a cup of fennel tea for the first time and feel great this morning. You could perhaps try that to relieve bloatiness :)

Not a tea person, but anything's worth a try. Feeling very uncomfortable and a little irritable today... the first few weeks of this diet are pretty gruelling. Can I pick fennel tea up from regular super markets, or will that be an online jobby?

I can only speak as to numbers of fiber that I've taken. start of slowly and build up is my suggestion.
fiber can initially make you uncomfortable, especially across the diaphragm/where the large intestine goes across, I found. but if you only took it this morning that pleasure may yet to arrive. the other thing is wind from the bacteria that are new to the fiber, it takes a bit to settle

I got Twinings fennel tea in Tesco. Probably available in all supermarkets.

That's quite reassuring. They're 500mg capsules and I'm following the instructions to take 3 with a decent amount of water, not sure if that's more than I should be taking initially or not! Time will tell I suppose :)

Great stuff, I'll have a look in Tesco later. Thanks!

3 sounds the problem, I'd take one tomorrow, in a few days/week after everything is ok, take 2..repeat...then 3

I think Atkins said to crush them up and dissolve in water and drink as a solution. I could be wrong though ;)

I hope the capsules you're taking are USDA certified? Apparently psyllium is one of the most contaminated crops around, so proper sourcing is very important.
