When you get the pump you should also get some infusion sets and cartridges to get you going while an account is set up for Accu chek who will more likely send you stuff to your home address, although as CarbsRok has said, you may have to go to your hospital to collect what you need instead. Make sure when you pick up the pump that you also have a vial of the insulin you will be using and that it's at room temperature, and get the DSN or the pump rep to show you step by step how to fill the cartridges and what to do to get rid of any air bubbles. Also, get your GP to prescribe you about 300 teststrips per month as you will find yourself doing lots of bg tests every day until you are able to set the pump up correctly...
The Flexlink infusion set is now available in 6mm as well as the 8mm cannula and is very easy to insert either with the inserter device or to put in manually. The Rapid D steel needle set is also easy to use.

Thanks for replying. im currently using an accu chek mobile which uses the cassete and the fast clix lancet drums and next week just before half term week hope to start on a trial pump. And the combo uses the aviva test stips and multi clix's lancet drum's. Along with canula's and resovirs. Im starting to think i need to get another cupboard

You can use any old finger pricker that you want. The multiclix lancets are expensive to prescribe so not sure if your GP will be ok about them. The Aviva teststrips are definately needed to make the bolus wizard on the Combo meter work ok in its calcuation. You cannot unfortunately enter a bg reading manually from another meter
If Accu chek deliver infusion sets and cartridges to your home address get about 3 months supply as the company charge a lot of money to PCTs regarding delivery charges. Also, ask to have some Accu chek pump bg monitoring diaries as these are so good at entering basal rates, carb bolus, bg level, correction bolus and TBR. Makes using the pump easy as you can spot trends as they start to happen.

It should do as Accu chek are good like that. If you see the pump rep ask him/her to have a root around their car to see if they can give you a pump clip holder which enables the pump to clip to yr waistband like I told you in yr other msg. Dont whatever you do, buy anything from Accu chek as you can pick up mobile phone cases or even a small camera bag that will hold a pump from most carboot sales very cheaply.. You will see what I mean when you get the pump. Ask the rep to give you a skin for the Combo bg meter as then you wont have to use the case for it. Lots of people just use a cheap pencil case to keep the teststrips, bg meter etc in.

JUST ONE SMALL TIP IF YOUR PUMP BREAKS DOWN,GETS DAMAGED, OR INDEED LOST
YOU WILL NEED TO KEEP A SUPPLY OF YOUR OLD SYSTEM TO USE AS A BACK ...UP
also keep insulin in date
and if you get high results i.e. 18 plus check line for snags air bubbles if in doubt change needle and line
IF INSULIN GETS LOW you will get warnings also if the pump for any reason stops .. WARNINGS WILL ALERT you
little steps small increases all help to stable you in the event you are ill with colds or other things use your base in from 100 % to 130% or as you blood sugars tell you i use 3 days of results to adjust say 3 pre breakfast bloods are high the increase your basel over the last 4 hours pre breakfast just by small increases per hour say >.5 per hour
