If you are hard to control would a pump be better for you and help you to get more controlled or do you have to be totally controlled before you get a pump? Thanks x

It depends what you are doing to try and achieve control and what you are struggling with. Have you basal tested? Are you accurately carb counting and are you confident in your I:C ratio through the day? Pumps can be helpful with dawn phenomenon, with offering temporary basal rates and with bespoke boluses. But at the end of the day any improvement in control via a pump is down to the person controlling the pump, they don't do anything by magic, they do what they are told and the things you need to understand to achieve good control via a pump are essentially the same things you need to understand on MDI.

I was wondering if the background basal dose would help with the spikes. I went on the carbs course in Sept so my insulin carb ratio is about right. I had the lesson about the pumps and wasn't too keen, it seems like a lot of faffing about. I just wondered if people found they were more or better controlled with a pump rather than without it? Thanks for replying x

hey there @Ladywillpower

pumping is not easier in terms of actual thinking -- but it brings benefits of not injecting 4+ times per day
and if your background rates ( basal ) are set correctly -- knowing you can eat whenever you want -- no need for a formula of breakfast , lunch ,dinner etc etc

typical day for me on a sunday -- late brunch ( 11am) and then nothing until evening meal at 6:45pm )
highest BG today has been an 7.8 mid afternoon ( about 3 hours post brunch )
( no hypos today either )

it is a subject to definitely discuss further here -- there are a fair few of us pumpers on the forum
