i have been diabetic for 39 years and i am now 51, on my last vist to the hospital i was given the chance to be referred to the pump clinic AT LAST, im hoping that this will get me better control and more freedom than the insulin pens, i would be grafull for any advive, on the good and bad points, makes etc

Hi caretaker
I got my pump in august this year after being diagnosed 21yrs ago. I niw have the best control since diagnosis. Dont get me wrong it takes quite a bit of working out to begin with but once you find what works for you it really is, in my opinion, the best thing ive had.
I had 13or so yrs of bad control and alot of retinopathy complications as a result but i wouldnt go back given the choice. It takes a little bit of getting used to and i find i niw buy clothes that fit around my pump. Sounds daft but i used to wear alot if knee length dress tops. I now find it easier to wear waisted clothes ie skirts or trousers. I think we are all different and if you get your pump you will soon find out what works for you.
I work in a nursery with 60 3yr olds and was a little aprehensive of it getting knicked or pulled but it really hasnt been a problem.
Good luck with it all and if you have any further questions feel free to ask. Im still quite new to it all and dont claim to know everything but i find it helpful to sometimes judt chat to someone who kniws where youre coming from. X
