Putting on weight

Sounds like a bet. What I’ve found though is that if I eat just 30 grams of carbs in one sitting then my BG gets close to 8 if not over. Maybe if I space things out throughout the day, I could get away with it. I.e keep BG on an even keel.

Yeah, space them out if you do add more carbs, eat them during the day when you are most active. I wouldn't do it at night when least active. You just need to experiment a bit, keep increases small and keep an eye on things. See how it goes.

After a chat with the consultant whose trial I'm on (he's great - always takes time to answer Qs & never patronises) he suggested spacing out increased carbs, If I'm in a 'safe zone' (e.g. office or home) then take insulin even up to 30 mins into advance to head off the glucose spike.

The trial has my weight recorded quarterly so I can see the loss. I'd dropped a stone pre diagnosis so another 0.5 really wasn't there to lose.

BUT - a friend who is a GP did say to me recently that we all get so used to seeing over weight people that trim and fit now looks too thin.
