Puzzling reading

I have been testing daily with a Contour usb which up until now I had been very pleased with. However I have just done my 2 hrs after evening meal test which I was expecting to come out within guidelines - gammon, cauliflower cheese and mushrooms, runner beans - 1st reading - 10.5.... odd, I did another on a different clean finger - 13...odder still, finally did another on a different finger again - 8.5 which is roughly what I was expecting, so what is going on?
3 very different readings in as many minutes and by much more than the 'allowed' 10 per cent leeway.
I shall try testing twice each time from now on to check if this is an anomoly or if I have been seriously misled over the last few weeks. :?

Was it 'cauliflower with cheese' or 'cauliflower in cheese sauce' which contains flour. If you made the cheese sauce yourself, it will have had about 25g (1 oz) flour in it, which may send your bg readings up. If it was shop-bought, who knows!?

As for different readings from different fingers - I've had different readings from the same drop of blood! I really don't know how to help about that - but it reminds me that my blood pressure is always higher in my right arm than in my left, even if taken by the same nurse in the same surgery less than 1 minute apart.! Doh!

I'd go with the lowest reading, but keep an eye on things and mention it to your HCP next time. You can get over anxious. If you keep getting high readings, it's a different matter.

Sorry I can't be more help

Just stick with the first reading dib provided your hands were clean. Most of us have discovered that testing one after another produces different results, meters are not a precision instrument and its always worth keeping this in mind.

Hi
did you wash your hands before your test?

Remember you use a new test strip each time you test
Its the test strip that does most of the work and not the meter

also
Temperature of the test strip and blood sample
Humidity
Air pressure
battery level
are just a few of the factors to deal with
