Hi

Am up an running now with my bg tester which arrived this afternoon. Thanks to the the advice on here.

I did pre meal tonight (8.1) then 1hr after (10) but the 2 hr after was higher (11.1) i thought i should i be aiming for a drop after 2hrs?

I had home made chilli and courgetti so am keeping track of what food isnt helping.

Any advice if i should test again or wait and start again tomorrow morning?

Ok, so you have done one meal and it was a surprise reading.
What, you have to realise is this is not a short term solution, but just a start.
If you want to know what is happening when you eat, you need to keep a food diary as well, it is not the single readings you are getting but the trends of how your blood glucose levels are doing over time. Experiment and test meals, food, drinks, again and again, this is how you find out which foods spike you too much.
Even just using smaller portions, upping fats and proteins with whatever carbs you can tolerate. Will make a difference over time using your glucometer and you will see in your food diary how how you are controlling your diabetes.
It's a marathon not a sprint.

Keep testing, you will discover so much about your body and how it reacts to food.

Yes, a food diary is very important, and one that list all the contents of the meal including things like sauces and gravies, plus portion sizes. Then you can experiment by changing somethings untill you are happy.

The peak after meals is not always before the 2 hour mark. It all depends on the contents of the meal, and your personal insulin responses. Keep experimenting, keep testing, keep recording everything. It is all trial and error.

Thanks i have started a food diary and the meter came with a diary for readings. Hadn't thought about experimenting with smaller portions as well so will try that later this week as still have chilli left over.

Hi. Yes, the content of food can vary the '2hr time'. Also, with diabetes, the drop after 2 hrs won't be as much as someone without diabetes hence the need for a low-carb diet and often some medication as well

I have a lot of pulses, including red kidney beans in chilli, and I find for me that the portion is critical. So more meat and sauce, less beans might be ok for you but test of course.
