Thanks for reply. Was wondering if it was kidney beans was all proud of myself jibbing the jacket spud for courgetti too. Oh well its a learning curve etc..
Ok, so you have done one meal and it was a surprise reading.
What, you have to realise is this is not a short term solution, but just a start.
If you want to know what is happening when you eat, you need to keep a food diary as well, it is not the single readings you are getting but the trends of how your blood glucose levels are doing over time. Experiment and test meals, food, drinks, again and again, this is how you find out which foods spike you too much.
Even just using smaller portions, upping fats and proteins with whatever carbs you can tolerate. Will make a difference over time using your glucometer and you will see in your food diary how how you are controlling your diabetes.
It's a marathon not a sprint.
Keep testing, you will discover so much about your body and how it reacts to food.
I have a lot of pulses, including red kidney beans in chilli, and I find for me that the portion is critical. So more meat and sauce, less beans might be ok for you but test of course. Thanks i have started a food diary and the meter came with a diary for readings. Hadn't thought about experimenting with smaller portions as well so will try that later this week as still have chilli left over.
