Question about desserts and sweeteners

I've been looking at low carb dessert recipes and many seem to use sweeteners. I generally hate the chemical taste of sweeteners (except in lemonade, but I try not to drink even that).

1. Are sweeteners OK for T2 and for low carb diet?

2. Are there any sweeteners that don't have a chemical after-taste?

3. Can you suggest any low carb desserts that don't use any sweeteners (and are delicious)?

I may be aiming too high in trying to find a dessert for my low carb diet and my Slimming World queen of a sister.

I have lost what sweet tooth I had but occasionally even I want to invite people who expect dessert or cake. They will have to adapt to low sugar though.

One of my recent favourites is a kind of choc pudding. Melt 100 grams of butter and then melt 100 grams of good quality chocolate in the butter. Mix 2 two eggs with vanilla extract, half a teaspoon or there about depending. If you use 85% chocolate you might want a tbps or two of sweetener of your choice, I use erytriol but only very little. Serve with whipped cream and raspberries.

My favourite sweetener things are the splenda syrups I get online. Even my sugar loving friends really like them and I find the flavour non chemical. And I don't care if they are all artificial, still better for me than sugar. And no spiking for me from these or stevia.

I prefer the taste of xylitol and agave syrup.
I dislike the fact that xylitol is so heavily processed.
I resent the fact that agave is so full of fructose (not great for liver function).

I actively dislike the taste of all the vile chemically synthetic ones like Splenda, aspartame and sucralose.

Oh, and stevia has a bitter after taste.

So I use xylitol. Occasionally.

What about erytriol?

im the opposite to Brunneria i use/like splenda and i think xylitol tastes like soap, especially the next day *shrug*

Interesting... I had never heard of it til your post.
Have googled it, and am interested in trying it - but it looks pretty hard to find, in the uk.
Will keep an eye out.

Thank you.

I buy erythritol on lowcarbmegastore but then I only buy bulk orders due to the carriage charge, so I recently stocked up on that and the flavoured syrups.

If you look under Scandis recipes you'll find my recipe for homemade ice cream. Easy to make, minimal sweetener and noones refused it yet!
