Question about Fasting Blood Glucose Reading

Hello,

I was concerned that I might have diabetes because I have some of the symptoms, so I brought an accu-check blood glucose monitoring system to check my blood glucose level. I fasted for 12 hours and then took a reading, it came back as: 5.7 mmol/L. I'm going to go to the doctor's anyway, I was just wondering if someone could tell me if my reading indicates I have diabetes or something to worry about.

Thanks.

Sorry, not really qualified to say. I think that they do a glucose tolerance test as well, ie feed you lots of lucozade and then see how your body copes.

Hope all goes well at the drs.

That 1 reading wouldn't be enough to tell anything. In any case it's within the normal range.
A lot more data would be needed

Self-diagnosis isn't recommended I'm afraid. I can see that by testing yourself you have a good blood glucose reading, but if you are concerned that you may be developing diabetes, I would suggest that you see your gp who can carry out further tests. Other conditions can have similar symptom's to that of on-set diabetes.
