This morning at 7AM my fasting BG was 10.5. Not unusual for me even with a very low carb day yesterday. For breakfast I had a tablespoon of oats soaked in full fat Greek yoghurt and a splash of milk, a teaspoon each of flax seeds, linseeds and chia seeds and a sprinkle of cinnamon and a coffee with cream. I was experimenting to see if my BG would rise after oats as I really miss porridge in the morning. When I tested again two and a half hours later, having showered, got ready for work had a 20 minutes walk, train journey, another 10 minutes walk, it was 10.5. So it hadn't risen over 2 or if it did, it had come back down again. Or does that matter because I was already high? Usually my BG comes down to 6.5 as the day goes on but rarely goes lower. I'm mostly in the 6.5 to 9 range. My last hbA1C was 59, down from 93 when I was diagnosed and I'm on 1000 mg of Metformin slow release first thing. What do you think?

Hi Annieok I have oats and plain greek yogurt soaked in a dish overnight topped with seeds or chopped almonds and they do not push my levels up have rasberries on top as well.
Try it this way
Raw oats [from Aldi ] in a dish top with Plain Greek Yogurt Repeat again top with crushed almonds and rasberries.

I thought that with carbs, you're supposed to test at 1 and 2 hours after eating, because the spike can be sharp - although, adding fat to the meal can slow down the response.

Oats spike me, but that's also because I would not be satisfied with one tablespoon, even with additional seeds and cream; soon after eating a bowl I'd be ravenous again (instead of the LC breakfast that keeps me satisfied till 2 pm)

You have already made great progress with your HbA1C, what kind of very low carb meals do you eat? Do you feel that you're already very strict or could you try going lower? Also, if you miss porridge, have you tried just the seeds as above and maybe some ground almonds or shredded coconut (all with cream/ Greek yog) - some people enjoy that instead of oats (not me - I love my bacon & eggs! ;) )
