Question for NovoPen Echo users

I've been using a NovoPen Echo for over a year now and recently it's started to display two dashes -- instead of the units of of insulin administered. This does not happen every time and the manual states that two dashes means the pen has been 'used in a way that cannot be registered. Has anyone else seen this and have any comments?

One time that I saw the two dashes, I took a blood glucose reading a couple of hours later and it was higher than it should have been. This wasn't necessarily down to a missed dose however, because my insulin requirements have been going up lately, that is I need more of it for the same effect.

It's happened again this morning and with it being quite early and me not fully awake I can't tell if I've had insulin or not (we become quite reliant on technology). I will have to find out in a couple of hours and adjust if necessary then.

If you have concerns about how it is working, my suggestion would be to get a new one on prescription ASAP from your GP. If you think the dosing is incorrect, stop using it and use a syringe until you have the replacement.

If you have no syringes you can buy them from a reputable pharmacist for about £1.50 for a bag of 10.

Turns out I'd had the dose. Since this only started happening recently think a replacement is probably a good idea. Good advice, thanks!

I've just picked up two of these on prescription and the warranty card says they're guaranteed for three years and that Novo Nordisk will replace them free of charge if you send it back to them.

The wording does rather suggest that you need to register the pen with them first (and tell them what insulin you use, how often you inject, inside leg measurement, etc, etc), but you may get lucky.
