Hello,

Was just wondering is there a mini pill (contraceptive pill) that will stop my periods completely as mine are so painful and it makes my sciatica ten times worse! I have a doctor's appointment for Wednesday for something else but may ask about this as well and was just wondering if it's worth asking them?! x

I suffered migraines on some pills so they wouldn't let me take them any more. The injection works well for me but it's personal preference and as we know our bodies are all different!

Yeah true I will have to ask because I am limited alot also because my mum suffered a stroke when she was 33 so they want to be careful lol *sigh*

If your periods are really painful I'd be asking for a laparoscopy to check that you don't have endometriosis - this is where the cells of the lining of the womb grow outside of the womb and can cause painful menstruation and backache. This can be treat with meds or laser treatment.

I had terribly painful periods all my life. I don't know about a mini pill but I went on the pill and the pain stopped totally

I have had a slow release progesterone implant (Nexplanon/|Implanon) for 3 years now. It is a wee implant generally in the skin of your arm and lasts for 3 years. For me it has been brilliant, stopped my periods completely for 2.5 years and controlled all my PMS symptoms. Obviously it is not suitable for everyone, but it might be worth a look at.

My pain is the bulging disc in my back having an operation eventually.....apparently menstuation makes it worse!

I can't go on the normal pill due to being at more risk of a stroke because my Mum died at 33 of one :(

I know what the pain is like I suffered for years. It helps to have a ot water bottle on your tummy when it's bad

Hey Nicola, I take cerazette (sp?) not sure if that's a mini pill or not, but I had crippling periods and have family history of stroke and heart probs so was advised this was best one for me to take, I take it continuously rather than 3 weeks then stop for 1 week and have period. Works great for me, been on it 7 years never had any problems with it. Hope that helps xx

You can't do this long term because of cancer risk, but you just take the 3 week pills and start a new pack. miss out on the last 7 in a pack and you won't have a period

Have you thought about the Merina coil? Brilliant for my heavy periods. Lasts about 5 years, can be removed if you want to start a family sooner.

Smartie xx
