Hello, basically I've been on the Mini pill for 2 years nearly...well 3 different ones now! And I am still having no luck finding a decent one or one that works for me! My first one gave me migraines and made me more depressed than I already was....my second one well that was okay until I got sciatica as it made my periods extremely heavy and extremely painful...no fun when you have 2 slipped discs, not that it is any fun anyway!! And my current one...well that was supposed to stop my periods so that I didn't have to go through the excrutating back pain when on my period...but has it stopped them? Like hell has it! It has also made me very spotty, whereas before I rarely got a spot...now I have about 3 or 4 at once and I hate it! Anyway getting to the point...I posted on here about contraception before and people have mentioned the injections before and I said no but now I am kind of considering them....but can I have them? I am limited to what contraception I can have as I am at even more risk of having a stroke because my mum had a massive one out of the blue and she died aged 33, and I already suffer with migraines anyway! I would never have the implant as that freaks the hell out of me...so injections...I could consider them...do they stop your periods? Do they hurt?...may sound stupid but I hate any other injections apart from insulin injections(obviously) even though I am a pumper but yeah you get the drift lol!

Sorry for rambling on lol! X

Hi Nicola,

Can't your boyfriend take responsibility considering the problems you are experiencing?

My periods do need stopping though! We don't even have sex a lot so that's not the problem it's my periods that are!

Hi Nicola, my wife ( She's not Diabetic) has the DEPO injection once every three months in her bum she thinks it's brilliant no mood swings every month and no periods the only downside is long term it increases your chance of osteoarthritis which they warn her her about, she does take supplements to decrease the chances of this, she use to be on the pill and all the other types of contraception but it made her lousy each month including hospitalisation on a few times with pain. I've also tried using contraception but it was more about the pain each month for her. Talk it through with your nurse about your concerns but it does have some positive advantages :-)

Why does the idea of the implant freak you out? I'm on my 3rd now. I LOVE it!!!! I always had really heavy periods, painful cramps, mood swings, food cravings. Those are all in the past. I might have 1 of 2 sort of periods a year. No cramps, no mood swings. I totally forget all about it. In fact I can't remember when I got this latest one. I will know when it needs replacing though as I start to get periods again. So I just go to the doc and ask for a new one. I usually need it replacing every 2 years, probably due to being over weight. The docs are getting better at inserting and removing them too. My first one I had to go to the special clinic 20 miles away as my docs didn't do them!

I know 3 or 4 people who have had a terrible experience with the implant....and the thought of a metal rod or whatever it is in my arm makes me feel sick...sorry just my opinion! and there's no guarantee it could stop my periods so na I think I will pass

I think I may consider the DEPO injection then! :) Thank you :)

Nicola - I don't have experience of either of these options, but I guess my only comment would be that if you tried the implant and, for whatever reason, it didn't suit you, they could be able to remove it (as @Lenny3 says they do when the start to "run out"), whereas, I'm not sure what happens if you don't get on too well with the injection.

Just something to consider.

Implant...no just no lol! I really don't want one and I am never going to have one! The idea and just talking about it is freaking me out! the injection lasts a few weeks so would just have to let it run its cause! Being with everything already wrong with me...I am ready for anything lol! x

Hi there. My daughter has the deprovera every 3 months and she is thrilled by it..its a tiny jab. She too tried many and like you didn't fancy it...she now says best thing she ever did...good luck

Have you tried the Cerazette? I was on it for a long time and it stopped my period and I didn't have any problems whatsoever on it.

That's what I was on at first...plus they don't do that no more...it's now zelletta which is what I am currently on!

Oh sorry, I didnt realise. Did they really stop it? I wasn't aware of that. I can't advise on implants or anyhing as I've only ever been on Cerazette:(
