Question re. weight loss and BG levels

I'm in my fourth week since being diagnosed with T2. I've changed my diet drastically and the BG levels are slowly improving. I have about 2.5 stones to lose.

I have a question about weight loss and BG levels. Does our BG levels improve because of weight loss, or is it that both our glucose levels and our weight improves because of eating a better diet?

Thanks!

I think...you can't lose weight till your insulin level drops, high insulin stops the body using it's stored fats, T2 with high BG will normally have high insulin too, as the pancreas is pumping as hard as it can to get it down.

To be honest, I think my weight loss (which wasn't an objective for me at the outset) was pivotal in the reduction of my blood scores. By eating a stricter diet, my weight and blood scores dropped. Chicken/egg? Egg/chicken? Who cares?

My DN said that BG levels improve because of weight loss but I now believe the other thing. The improved (LC) diet lowers the glucose levels from which weight loss ensues. Of course, having achieved weight loss I suppose that would improve your general health as well.

Hi. My understanding is that it's a combination of factors and it's not clear what is cause and what is effect, but as Jack says an overweight T2 will usually have very high insulin levels as the pancreas tries to use the excess glucose from the carbs being eaten but can't as the muscle cells etc are 'clogged' with stored fat from the liver (the liver converts excess carbs to fat). This is called insulin resistance. Having a low-carb diet forces the body the start using stored fat, causes less fat to be stored anyway and the lowered blood glucose reduces the insulin output. All of this gradually causes the body regain a balance and to be able to use the carbs you do eat to be metabolised efficiently.
