Hello

Hope this finds you well.

Me and my fiancé have been hearing about new technology that cures diabetic people in Germany.

My fiancé has been diabetic for since early age. She is now 24 years old. She is been diabetic for the last 10 years.

She is diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and she takes insulin shot every now and then depending on her sugar level. She also takes Novo Rapid medication during the day and at night she takes Tresiba.

We would like to go ahead with a surgery to correct this issue and get her back to normal. if there is any cure to it, please let me know.

Thanks

Omar

Hello right back at you. There is no current technology that will 'cure' type 1 diabetics either in Germany or indeed any where else in the world. I am sorry to put it quite so bluntly but that's just how it is. Once you have it there is no going back. She, you and the rest of us here just have to get on with the management of the condition the very best way we can.

Hello @omaralsalman At present there isn't a cure for type 1 diabetes, once the pancreas has been subject to an autoimmune attack it cannot recover.

However there is the option of pancreas transplant which carries with it high risk of infection/rejection and immune suppressant drugs for life, which isn't a great option if you are otherwise healthy. Surgery such as this is really only an option if insulin therapy is not working as it should do, hypo awareness has gone and quality of life has been affected to such an extent and then of course a transplant donor is available.

It is manageable to live a 'normal' life with type 1, knowledge is key to a healthy life, many are testament to this on the site.

At least in the US in order to get an islet cell ("pancreas") transplant you have to need a renal transplant. That way they can justify your taking the anti-rejection drugs which are required for the kidney transplant anyway.
