Fab, thank you so much for replying. Do you know which types of bread are better? It was a seeded wholegrain bread, Im making myself eat toast around 10am as normally I'd only have one meal a day, dinner, then eat nothing until dinner the following day. I'm wondering if I'd be better not having the toastThe toast would have had an impact and reflects the 10.8 after. You can get other types of bread that don't spike, would be worth taking a look x
Bread is around 60% carb by weight - doesn't really matter what sort of bread. I'd excpect to see that sort of rise myself if I ate toast - readings like that tell me that my system can't handle the carbs in whatever it was I ate.Two hours after eating two slices of toast I had a reading of 11.8, 1.5 hours after that (so 3.5 in total) it's still up at 10.8, is that significant in any way? I know the earlier reading is, but the fact it didn't come down much almost two hours later? Thanks
There's low carb bread as has been suggested. Personally for me I just go without as I feel terrible after if I eat something sweet of an kind of bread, both physically and mentally the guilt and self loathe for me is terribleFab, thank you so much for replying. Hi, sorry I didn't think to do it prior to you mentioning that I hadn't! Done now, thanksHi @ChezChez what type of diabetes do you have? Are you on any medication for diabetes? It would help members greatly if you could fill in your about section on your profile, members can then tailor the advice to your particular situation. Giving advice without any info on meds etc can be useless and even dangerous if you are on blood sugar lowering meds.
As to the toast, if you are T2 and diet only or on Metformin only then those numbers aren’t ideal. Did you test before eating? Your aim is to have a rise of 2 or less 2 hours after eating and to be no higher than 7.8. Maybe ditch the bread which is high in carbs and have bacon & eggs, scrambled egg, cheese, cold meats.
Thanks for this, I'll definitely look to buy some, I'm vegan so there's not much for me to eat (have been for over 30 years). I was making myself eat it as my mum told me to stop going the whole day and only eating dinner, I thought it was being healthier, I'm absolutely hopeless. I appreciate the recommendation for the breadBread is around 60% carb by weight - doesn't really matter what sort of bread. The after-food test is supposed to be no higher than 7.8 and not more than 2 higher than your starting level. I guess your readings don't fit either of those criteria. My advice, if you don't want those sorts of BG levels, is not to eat bread or toast. If you're making yourself eat toast, it should be easier to substitute something else - cheese and ham, maybe?
I do use a low carb bread that I get from a firm called SRSLY low-carb - here's a link. It's expensive compared to carby bread but for me it was either this or nothing.

I buy the rolls which have less than 3g carb each.
Far better to fast than spike blood glucose. Thanks for this, I'll definitely look to buy some, I'm vegan so there's not much for me to eat (have been for over 30 years).
