Quick help required please

Hi there just checked myself and my machine just says HI I have been running higher since.having my baby 3 months ago but forgot to take any insulin after tea checked in my book and it says a high reading means over 33! So I have taken 20 units of insulin now as its nearly 4 hours since I have eaten will that be enough?
 
Would you have normally taken 20 units with your tea? It sounds like a very high dose (assuming it's the Apidra you've taken) but then I don't know what your usual insulin:carb ratio is. Just be careful you haven't taken too much which will result in a hypo. If the result is high because of your missed insulin at tea time then you really want to take the dose that you should have taken with tea. Check your bloods again in a couple of hours to make sure all is well before going to bed.
 
Thanks for replying I have just checked it again and its down to 18.9 so have taken another 6 units of apidra

I couldn't work out why it was so high and realised I ate lunch walking around town today and again forgot my insulin.

I had my hba1c down to about 6% whilst pregnant as well but having a toddler and a new baby its the last thing on the list at the min.

Unfortunately there is no real way of knowing how high HI is. It could be anything from 33 upwards.

Although you've now got a bg reading on your meter just keep testing yourself every 60-90 mins as you may find yourself dropping fairly quickly especially as you've given yourself some more Apidra. Keep some lucozade handy just in case.
 
Thanks I have just had a little snack as hate going hypo when in charge of the kids on my own hubby back from work in ten mins! That will teach me for being careless god what I wouldnt give to be non diabetic for a day and I have only had :cry: it for 2 years
