Hello, my quick set cannula sometimes decides to become 'unstuck' at certain times for instance during bathtimes and this morning whilst painting my kitchen cielling. In other words it decides to remove it's self at the most inconvenient times! I was wondering if anyone knows the name of the stuff you can put on your skin before doing a set change which will hopefully stop my set from trying to escape! It is supposed to make the set adhere to the skin more.

Many thanks

Hi
I don't know the name of what you are thinking of. However, I have used mefix tape / patches to keep my cannula stuck on which have worked really well. It sticks over the cannula and tubing.I haven't used it in the shower though. The only time it has come unstuck is when I was at the gym and very sweaty!

Do you moisturise before putting in a cannula? This may contribute to it coming unstuck. Also I was told to avoid Dove bath products as they are very creamy / moisturising and result in cannulas not sticking as well.

If it keeps happening you may want to open a new box of cannulas as maybe it is a faulty batch.

Hi

The product I can remember reading about is called Skintac. You can google it and I think it is still available in the UK from M G Healthcare.

Have you tried wiping the area where the set is going in to with an alcohol wipe first, letting it dry and then inserting as that might also help? Alcohol wipes are dirt cheap to buy on eBay...

I find if you wipe the skin with an alcohol wipe the adhesive sticks much better, alternatively if you feel one of the sides of the plaster coming loose or just feel its not secure, you can use plain steri strip plasters around the sides or ask your doctor for tegaderm plasters that you can cut a whole in, I used to do this with my insuflon before I got my pump :)
