Random Spikes

hi all, I haven't posted in α while as my bloods have remained controlled since I clamped down on my bad habits earlier this year.

the last few days however, I keep getting bizarre readings! this evening I was feeling really hungry, but my blood sugars were 10, which is α little high but nothing an extra unit or two of novorapid wouldn't correct if I decided to eat some food, so I made sausages and chips and injected the extra insulin to make sure my bloods lowered, I have checked them α few hours later and they are 21!!!!

as you can imagine this horrified me after having such good control this year and priding myself with better health, I'm terrified I'm losing the hang of it again! I don't understand why my bloods have spiked like this, this also happened yesterday evening when they spiked to 16? I'm very concerned, I can't find an explanation, any help would be appreciated, this has made me feel down

Did you bolus for the sausage and chips, along with the correction, and wait for bloods to come under 7 before eating, or did you bolus and eat immediately? If you didn't pre bolus it's likely the high blood sugar mad it harder for the insulin for the meal to start working, or your bloods were already climbing before eating, so it's not suprisingly your meal will have caused such a big spike.

I hate random spikes too!

Are you feeling well? I had this last week then came down with a bad cold.

Try not to overthink it, it's might be a one off. Just keep a close eye on your readings over the next few days.

I've been getting some spikes as well recently, turned out that my basal was way off so you could try doing some basal testing. Alternatively, you may be getting sick, even if you haven't developed symptoms yet. Or it could be the food, I always seem to get ridiculous spikes with chips so I just don't eat them anymore. If you haven't eaten the food many times previously that could explain part of the spike.
