That sort of loss needs to be reviewed by a dr, especially if it’s unintentional or unexplained.

Type 2 more typically causes weight gain, although medications levels etc can all have an effect.

It is intentional by diet, but I don’t do it gradually :(

I lost a lot of weight when I went keto after diagnosis, and for a while looked as if I needed ironing, but over subsequent months my loose skin has tidied itself up a lot.

Was it also in very short period of time?

So, am I right in thinking it WAS your intention.

And as you did it by diet, I presume you are now wanting advice to keep good management of your type 2
But to slow or stop the weight loss ?

I think I lost 3 ½ st over 3 months once I started LCHF after DX

Friends worried it was too much to lose in such a short time .

On our first trip back to India since my DX, friends first question to the missus, was "is it cancer".....nice.

I read up a little, which led me to believe the body is a wily foe , and WILL protect itself, IF it believes itself to be in danger .

So I guess first question, if you are happy to share, is could you afford to lose the weight ?

I know I could have, touching distance of 17 st at DX when the BMI indicated weight should have been 11 st something. (I was 13 st in India and looked malnourished)

If so, perhaps your body isn't too concerned and is giving you a little freedom to choose for now ?
And it's also likely helping with the management of your T2D.

I think it was Dr fungus in his diabetes code book that I read said farmers want to fatten cattle they give them them carbs which increases their insulin production making them fatter

If you reverse some of the methods of losing weight that might stop or slow down the weight loss, assuming you're not thinking it's a more medical condition?

Perhaps just an up of intake of food might help you & put your mind at rest ?

During feeding, you store food energy as body fat. During fasting, you burn body fat for energy. If you balance those two, your weight will remain stable. If you are predominantly feeding, you will gain weight. As well, if you are predominantly fasting, you will lose weight.

So are you now at a good healthy weight? Still need to lose or want to regain a bit? Diet wise that flexibility is best achieved by maintaining good protein levels, keeping carbs minimal and adjusting naturally occurring unprocessed fats up or down to change weight. Protein is essential to protect muscle and if you are able weight baring or strengthening exercises will help.

Yes to the very short period of time (sorry couldn't quote the question). I can't tell you how short because I never expected it to happen, and so didn't keep a record. I also can't tell you how much I lost, for the same reason. I went keto to get my blood glucose back to a sensible level. The weight loss was a surprise, but a wonderful one. I have gone down 4 and a half clothes sizes. And the weight loss has currently stopped there. Though I wouldn't mind losing more, I am an English size 10-12 (American 8-10 I think) so in reality I should be okay with that. My diagnosis was September 2021 and the bulk (ha!) of my weight loss took a very few months.

Is it possible to build muscles back for diabetic type 2. I feel uncomfortable with my butt as now skinny then before the tail bone hit when I sit which is new to me.

Of course. I can't imagine why it wouldn’t be possible Sufficient protein and the right muscle exercises.

I did Keto prior to diagnosis as i thought it the only diet with the foods i like to eat. i lost 25Kg in 4 months. i did lose some muscle mass as due to problems with my legs, exercise was not an option, also my backside disappeared, funnily enough without actually testing it, apart from my legs my strength seems to be about the same. so i can only surmise the extra muscle was needed to move a bloater about, and as i'd lost the sack of spuds i carried everywhere with me, i no longer needed that amount of muscle to go about my usual everyday life.

Hi Jjrak,

Thank you for sharing and sorry for late reply. I was quite happy with the lost of weight that my fatty liver after latest ultrasound seem disappear, but my SGOT/AST seems elevated. The doctor says is quite normal because the liver working on the fats - I am not quite sure I understand that well though.

And just visit local nutritionist and she had checked that I’ve lost more fat comparing to muscles.

I need to manage my weight not to drop more. I have put more intake of food now and seems stable enough after 5 days.

Now I have another condition, first it seems improved my blood glucose level when I consume Basmati rice as carbs, it never reach 7.2 mmol/L postprandial 1 hour. But now it can shoots to 9.2 1 hour postprandial. Just wonder how it can be.

Sorry to have lots of questions as I am new to TD2.

Thank you for sharing this HSSS, glad to know. I have read somewhere that insulin resistanfe make it hard to gain muscle :)

No worries.

Good results on liver

Perhaps see it as sculpturing your body ?

The change in diet likely helps reduce weight.
And hasn't allowed you yet to look in a mirror and see where you'd like to add muscle or tone via exercise etc ?

I worked with body builder once, who would look at certain parts before he showed, critically and do specific exercises to enhance that part.

For my part I saw my own version as if it was 'deflating' one body, with it collapsing (losing weight) slightly

Which then let me see where I needed to put on a little muscle to stop that 'ill' look the weight loss gave me.

As for the carbs.

Not sure our heightened intolerance of carbs ever goes away.

Anything we do is merely emptying the pot within us containing all the excess fats stored
That our diabetes DX warned up was now spilling over.

And all the good we did is undone by returning to a previous food style

Whether that is over a few meals or a few years, I believe we, at some point reach saturation again, and the pot spills over once more.

Sure others see it differently

We each make our own choices.

It might be the combination of whatever else you were eating around the same time. Not all foods are digested and used at the same rates. Some people report a continuing effect 3 or even days later.
Other factors affect bg too, exercise, sleep, stress etc.
And your body is changing how it works too.
That why we all keep an eye on bg even when we think we've worked it out and know it all.
Diabetes the gift that keeps us guessing!
