:problem: Good afternoon all. Diagnosed 5 weeks ago T2. been low carbbing for 4 weeks, doing well keeping bg down. usually 5s,6s &7s
I suddenly developed a rash right across my chest and down one shoulder. very very itchy, sometimes it's raised and red other times it's just there. went to see gp, he's not sure what has caused it. he has given me chlorphenamine and flucloxacillin.
I'm not sure I want to take these. I googled them. one is obviously antibiotic. the other is used to treat hives.

Does anyone else have problems with rashes? and do you use anything other than medications to ease symptoms?
My partner thinks it's maybe because I'm eating a lot of strawberries. but I maybe have 7 a day.

My diet isn't very varied as I'm not a big meat eater or veggy either. so when I find something I like I can have I tend to have it often. but I've always loved strawberries so I can't see it's that.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had an intensely itchy rash develop just after Christmas. Dr treated it with steroid cream, no effect. Next dr treated it with strong antihistamine, no effect. After three weeks of intense itching and burning all over my torso and limbs, I sprinkled some daktarin powder all over the inflamed areas. The relief was mind blowing. I told the Dr about this and he prescribed clotrimazole (yes that's thrush cream) and I applied this twice a day. Gradually got rid of the rash.

This incidentally led to diagnosis of type 2. Because high sugar can feed fungal infections, the third dr ordered glucose tests.

If it is a fungal infection, you have to treat it even after the itchiness is gone. Fungus can linger within the skin and return when conditions are favourable for overgrowth.

I have a rare allergy Exrcise Induced Anaphylaxis{EIA} to cold and vibrations. I come out in hives if I do something that vibrates my skin [like jumping jacks in my Aquamobility class] and I'm cold [as I always am in the swimming pool. ]
I can take an antihistamine if I think I might get a bout of the "Itchies". Trrouble is it's not very predictable. I also wear a wetsuit to aquamobility.
However what has been written about fungal infections is useful info. Best to keep that blood glucose LOW

Thanks for the info. I don't think it's fungal as I've had a fungal rash and it's different. it swells up like blisters but harder.
Will try the powder see if it helps. doing well with my bg levels most of time they are 5s 6s and occasional 7s. although this morning I thought I'd try some wholemeal toast, very thin scrape of clover. over 2 hours later bg8.4 won't be having that again.

thanks again
