Reactive hypoglycaemia and type 1

I am sorry you had to deal with RH and now Type 1.
Wouldn't wish either on my worst eñemy.

In answer to your question, I am afraid you would need an endocrinologist to give an informed response.
I know that RH is often connected to the subsequent development of Type 2, but i wouldn't like to guess about a connection with Type 1.

I had hypos some time before Type 1 diagnosis and my consultant told me (after diagnosis) that these were due to a failing pancreas. She said as the islet cells die, the imsulin response becomes disordered and late. In an attempt to cntrol BS, the pancreas overproduces insulin.

So, in my unmedical opinion, it's very possible you don't have RH technically as it's probable your failing pancreas had become erratic just like mine did before I got Type 1.

And no, untreated RH doesn't cause Type 1. Type 1 is an auto immune disease. The hypos are just a symptom of the developing Type 1 not the cause.

I think you have nailed it correctly!
RH as a symptom of the pancreas working overtime does fit the symptoms!

I have reactive hypoglycaemia but also blood sugars diagnostic of diabetes. However because my blood sugars go very low, the Drs don't seem interested in diagnosing/ treating diabetes! Please help x

Hi, I know how you feel, I went through all what you are going through.
I have a condition called 'Late Reactive Hypoglycaemia' and I control my condition with a diet and exercise.
Most doctors and even specialists, do not have the knowledge about hypoglycaemia and its many types
If you have RH, you need to get a specialist endocrinologist whose specialty is metabolic conditions such as RH!
I suspect that because of your blood glucose levels are high that you are still eating, drinking a certain amount of carbs and sugars.
Do read our sticky about newbie information on the top of the rh forum page.
Have you had a proper diagnosis?
Had any tests?
Have you a blood glucose monitor?
Give us an idea of meds, of what you eat and drink?
What are your symptoms?
If you have more questions or not to sure what we are saying please ask, it is confusing, but we have had many people on here with a form of hypoglycaemia, that we have helped.

I have never heard of type1 and RH!

It sorta contradicts each other for diagnosis.
Type 1 is a condition, autoimmune in nature and a deficiency in insulin.
RH is a condition because of an over production of excess insulin.

But I live and learn!
