I have been blissfully eating fresh fruit with evaporated milk every evening, as i dont like cream

Couldnt understand why my sugar levels were rising. I mean, evaporated milk is just like cream - right???

Wrong. Evap has 54.3g or carbs per 100ml, which is the amount I was pouring on my fruit

Lesson learned: Assume nothing, always read the label. :(

Holy Carb Count, Batman!

It's funny how the things we think are lower carb turn out to be insanely high.
I got caught out with the ones that put the carb count per serving and it says something like "2g carb per serving" which I thought was great until I ate it and realized a serving is actually 1 teaspoon!

Evaporated milk is very sweet in taste and not surprised it has 54.3g per 100ml.

More confusion now.

Carnation tin says 13g per 100ml

Collins Gem carb book says 53.7

confused again

Calorie, carb and fat bible says Evap is 11.6g/100ml a serving it says is 85g. Reduced fat version is 10.5g/100, but a serving is 28g of this type. Condensed milk varies between 10.5 for unsweetened and 60 for sweetened.

Check out the differences between "Evaporated" and "Condensed" milks.
