I have been getting my reading down to between 5 and 9 most of the days and i had checked a lot of food types and measured 5-7 times a day
then i was out on statins (reading 6.2) and apart from not feeling great aching my readings started to increase slightly on the same food groups
now they are increasing 8-14
today started at 10 following a ryebread sandwich ham and fried onions , after two hours 14.4
which is very disappointing and i have also stopped the statins about 5 days ago

I have a test next week 17th July - so i can see if my level has increased
my numbers have reduced on the hb1ac since last oct2011
115 > 81> 56 (12.7>9.6>7.2)

so can food groups change the effects

can statins effect the sugar levels

I have also taken up nordic walking - and usually following a walk the levels are decreased - but recenlty seems to have little effect

I have read that statins can cause diabetes in some people. So evidently they do have some effect on BG. Suspect that research in this area is strictly avoided by the drug companies!
Seriously, there is quite a strong split on this forum between the pro and anti statin brigades. I think that more people suffer the side effects of pain and general malaise than the doctors appreciate. Many older people put these effects down to ageing, rather than a drug reaction.
As for exercise, you seem to be following a typical pattern. As your body becomes accustomed to exercise it becomes less effective at lowering your BG.. There is an article today on the BBC website on this very issue.
Eat to the meter, it is the safest way.
Good luck with getting the BG down:)
