readings...

i was diagnosed with type 2 over 2 months ago after my BS was up at 27.2.... i took myself off insulin novamix and 4 tabs of metformin about 5 and 3 weeks ago respectively( mainly due to the fact i went on a short break...i forgot the full insulin pen while away and the metformin disagreed with my stomach....
anyway..as posted elsewhere..... my BS has been below 7 since and mainly in the 5's....
I informed the diabetic nurse what i had done. and she didnt say i couldnt stop using them.......

ive been eating a healty diet....combined with daily exercise....... but the last couple of days... ive eaten and drunk things considered bad..... meals high in carbs and fizzy drinks.....

The point is...when i took a bs test before and after( 2hrs ect.... my bs was at 4.3 and never higher than 7.(i tried the test using 2 meters)..... is there an explantion why this should be..because reading peoples post.... most foods high in sugars and carbs foods cause and immediate rise in bs....

also.... what would be the readings of someone who doesnt have diabetes? eating and drinking the same foods? (ball park figure) :?

Some of the "candidates" in the Apprentice - I would never have employed some of the nasty individuals that pop up as potential employees in this show. If they are the best on offer then heaven help us!
Neither my brother nor my husband are diabetic. My husband tends to be in the 4's most of the time and I tested him 1 hr post a Sunday dinner and he was still only 5.1. My brother tends to be in the 5's and he rose to 6.8 after the same meal as my husband.
This may be a silly question but is it possible they got that 1st reading wrong? I only ask because my brother was originally told he was Type 2 until they did the Glucose Tolerance Test then they decided he was not diabetic. Turns out something went wrong with their computer which had dropped all the test results down one level so he wasn't diabetic - someone else was. They had to contact a lot of people as loads had been given the wrong results.
Figures you are getting, I would be getting myself back to the doctors, tell them what is happening and get retested.

nah..took the 'asda' supermarket test who gave me original BS readings.... accident and emergency confirmed similar BS readings.... and kept me in...put me on insulin and metformin overnight  and then discharged me to a diabetic clinic of my choice..local or hospitAL BASED.
lots of people... including a consultant are surprised that diet and exercise are not the first choice of treatment. 8)

Having no energy as this is so limiting.
Hi Geoff,

If your results are accurate, which seems likely (assuming it was a GTT), then it looks like you are on diet and exercise by default rather than by design! If this is so then you cannot really afford the ".....meals high in carbs and fizzy drinks......" and will have to work at it by following the advice that Sue and/or Ken post as "Advice for newly diagnosed T2s". It is quite do-able and you should be able to keep the meds successfully at bay for a while at least.
