My nurse told me my readings after my blood tests have gone up from 50 to 59. What does this actually mean. Would appreciate any help given

Hi Bagitha, and welcome.

Well, if it's your HbA1c, that's your 3 month average, leaning more heavily towards the last 2 weeks... Basically, you've gone from just barely in the diabetic range to deeper into it. I am going to assume you're a T2, but I can't tell from your profile, so you might want to fill that out to avoid being asked the same questions over and over (Type, treatment/medication, mostly). Did they give you any medication and / or dietary advice? Because if they put you on metformin, well.. Met doesn't do much about the ingested carbs.... (Practically all carbohydrates turn to glucose once ingested, so not just sugars, but starches too). It just tells your liver not to dump as much glucose in the morning, so.... If you want to tackle the diabetes, and not just let it get worse but get your bloodsugars back into the normal range, diet is an excellent option. There's a lot of websites (diabetes.co.uk , dietdoctor.com) and books (like Dr. Jason Fung's The Diabetes Code), but I wrote a little quick-start guide that's hopefully a little less overwhelming. https://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/blog-entry/the-nutritional-thingy.2330/ All in all though.... Your diabetes is getting worse, and it doesn't have to. You have a say in this condition. It doesn't have to be an endless stacking of pills and eventually, insulin.

If you have any other questions, give a shout: there's always people around here who'll have answers for you. Usually good ones. ;)
Good luck!
Jo

That looks like the results of your HbA1c test, which gives a sort of average of the levels of your blood sugar over the previous 2 to 3 months. This page on the forum website will help you as it explains it all
https://www.diabetes.co.uk/what-is-hba1c.html

It will help us all if you could complete your profile settings to show your type of diabetes, treatment, and medication. Without this information it is hard to give appropriate advice.

In the meantime, perhaps you could tell us what you eat in a typical day. We may spot things to help you. Diet is the key to this.
