This morning before breakfast my readings were 5.9 ( an hour after getting up) I had 2 weetabix with skimmed milk and a chopped banana. I then had a 15 minute walk, drove to the dog refuge where I help and started to clean. I tested my blood 2 hours after my breakfast and the reading was 5.5 When I got home, 4 1/2 hours after breakfast my readings were 6.2 which made me wonder..... The work at the refuge is quite physical, sweeping, mopping, bending, lots of walking back and forth.... I would have thought my 4 hour later reading would have been lower?
Puzzled.

Hi, the answer is that low glycaemic foods can take 3/4 hours to hit your blood. They are slooow acting. Thats good because it gives your pancreas the chance to keep you levels on an even keel, and its working!
These are good levels.

I didn´t think of that!! Stupid or what!!! I thought as I would be doing a lot of ´manual´ work I would add a banana to make the food ´last longer´ . Pooper scooping, washing floors etc is hard work

Thanks for the reply

I have been getting very up and down readings first thing in the mornings- but I am going through the menopause and get lots of ´hot´ spells at night, so very broken nights sleep, so have given up on the morning readings (vary from 5.5-8) I will concentrate on the food readings and see what is good/bad.

My morning readings are variable too. Sometimes 6.5 or sometimes 5.3.

I know perfectly well it is what I ate the night before, and what time I went to bed.

My readings are bananas for example I was 9.0 before lunch (ham sandwich with granary) 2 hours later 5.5 "oh well" so much for testing what food is good for my bg

Ham sandwiches must be good for you! Portion control, I guess.

If I don't eat breakfast my readings go up quite high before lunch, but if I eat breakfast they are in the 5s at lunchtime.
