I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes on April of 2018, my h1ac was then 11.5 and a fasting blood glucose of 297 with hyperosmolarity.... They put me on metformin and insuline but I decided not to take insuline and treat it with diet, gym and intermittent fasting.....my weight when I was diagnosed was 230 pounds, and in almost 4 months ended up at 167 pounds, and H1ac of 6.0 and prediabetic blood sugars. It tends to go down instead of going high...
I stopped using metformin because was giving me a lot of problems.....
I feel lost because now I am having a ton of issues: going to once every 3 or 4 days, frequent urination, feeling tired after every food and a constant strong stomach pain after any kind of food, my hair has started to fall and my black area of the eye keeps small all the time......I don't know what to do, somebody have experienced this before?
What it could be?
I went to the doctor and he is even worst than me finding symptoms on Google but I have the feeling that there's something really wrong happening in my body....any advise will be appreciated.
Also I am experiencing cold hands and foot but I don't understand why...getting also a heart burn every time I eat....

Hello @legolgel and welcome to the forum.

Sorry to hear about your health problems you are experiencing. Maybe giving us some more information might be helpful. What kind of blood sugars do you observe currently? Do they go up noticeably after meals? What do you typically eat in a day?

Btw, well done for lowering your blood sugar levels and for the weight loss.

I'm tagging @daisy1 for some really helpful introductory information.

Hope other will be along soon, who might be able to help.

The maximum that I get after any kind of food is 136 maximum but when I start to hit 120 on the glucometer starts all the before mentioned symptoms.....and tends to fall until 70.....
I was used to have a low carb diet with some fats....
The thing is that I wake up at any moment of the night with a lot of sweat and heart palpitations.....
I have the suspicion my pancreas is making to much insuline for some reason....
I tend to loose weight instead of gaining any...

Hello there - What tests has your doctor run, since you started experiencing these issues? Have you ever had your insulin production levels checked at all? Personally, in your shoes, I would like a good range of blood tests to be run, including viatmins and hormones.

Could you give us an indication of what you actually eat on a day to day basis? How often do you fast, and how long to your fasts usuallu last?

Sorry for all the questions, but whilst we might have some suggestions for you to think about, it sounds like you need medical assistance to work out what's going on here.

Hi!

If you’re losing weight then you’re definitely not producing too much insulin. The opposite would be true.

I am guessing your symptoms could be partly due to previously having very high blood glucose and now your body is having hypoglycaemic reactions because it’s not accustomed to the lower levels. Also possibly you’re not displacing the carbohydrate with enough fats.

Both are guesses though. Seek medical attention as a matter or urgency if things get worse!

Hi @legolgel much of what you describe sounds like it is being caused by blood sugars that are too high. When I was Type 1 I was very aware of what happened to my digestive system if my readings went haywire. One common feature was unpleasant stomach cramps, often accompanied by diarrhoea, Ketoacidosis which naturally eats away body fat and therefore brings your weight down. It sounds as though you are not making enough insulin, but I would urge you to see a diabetes consultant and to let him know that you are not on Insulin or Metformin. Maybe you are Type 1 and not Type 2? I am not in any position to diagnose, but there are others on the Forum who have been diagnosed incorrectly. I would find out urgently, even going straight to A and E at your local hospital. I wish you the very best of luck

Actually yes. Stopped Metformin, now sick and urinarting frequently...could very likely be hyperglycaemia.

The doctor only days that the body is struggling but he doesn't seem necessary to do any test because that is Diabetes (that is why I am going to change the doctor) he says that I must have the body ready to get into Diabetes again....I don't believe such b.s. and I know when my body doesn't feel right, not him.
I love questions believe me.
I am fasting less than 12 hours because it feels horrible....
Now I am not eating any kind of diet but all the symptoms started to get worst since the moment I started to loose weight.

Do you have a glucose meter? I would get one and check your blood immediately. As alluded to previously, your pancreas may be packing up. It would explain the weight loss. And if you have hyperglycaemia then your symptoms could very well be ketoacidosis. My advice is to not delay on this! If in doubt go to the emergency department at the hospital.

I do have a glucometer and test it regularly... My sugar levels doesn't go higher than 136 and my fasting blood sugars goes below 110..... For now ...but I am going to send you the test that I have done lately

Hi, as others have said if you are losing weight that implies you have low insulin production or some other illness. If you have high blood sugar which is uncontrolled there is a great danger of DKA (Ketoacidosis). Insulin needs to be given if you have high blood sugar and low insulin production to avoid the production of ketones. From what you say your doc sounds useless. I would check your ketone level with ketone strips and ask for a c-peptide test to check your natural insulin level.

Hi @legolgel,

Your blood sugars look good as the results you report are in the non-diabetic range (high of 136 mg/dl = 7.6 mmol/l and low of 70 mg/dl = 3.9 mmol/l).

Before commenting on some of the above I would like to say that we aren't medical professionals on this forum, so can't diagnose you -- so a checkup with your GP is definitely a good idea. It definitely is important to rule out anything more serious. So sorry to hear that your current doctor is not helpful.

Given that no other serious problems that are found, these are some things that might help with your diet:

Is it possible that you just aren't eating enough food? This might also be an explanation for losing weight (and your hair).

As to your fast heartbeat und sweating at night -- increasing your salt intake, either by salting your foods more liberally or by incorporating broth (especially bone broth) into your diet, might help.

To stabilize weight (or even gain), including more high fat foods might be good option. Think cheese and nuts, especially.

Thanks for the advise and yes , I am in the struggle to get a good dr here in Rhode island, USA....
Thanks for all the help received and I hope to find an answer for these issues

And it is weird because there is no trace of ketones in urine.....there is maybe a problem behind the hyperinsulinemia that they detected at the beginning or maybe my pancreas is packing up too....

I know my blood sugars levels are fine my body isn't going right for some reason and each body is different is true also....bit I am very concerned about the digestive issues and everything else before mentioned... I'll be with another doctor the 21st and hopefully he will help me finding where the problem could be...

Have you had your thyroid function checked out?
Some of the symptoms you mentioned in your post, is usually a corollary of thyroid issues of some sort.
The cold hands and thinning hair stood out as one of the issues that raises a red flag when the body's thermostat is impaired somewhat.
Take a look at this link it gives an idea somewhat.

Good point too....there it could be so many things running in the background! I'll read that, thanks a lot beforehand
