I take care of a 95 year old lady and she is a diabetic she is also a vegetarian. she is on a no sugar or sugar substitute diet. she has a sliding scale and her reading can at times be all over the place. she has recently had her left leg below knee amputated do to a pressure sore. she now has bed sores and her weight is dropping. i just want to know is there a safe way for her to put weight on she is getting very thin and that doesnt help her sores or prevent more from forming. her doctors really arent much help.

There is a drink called Ensure and yogurts called Fortecrem that are high calorie. Don't know if they have to be prescribed though...

Sorry I wasn't any more help. I'm nursing student so people just say to give Ensure etc - I don't have any decision making responsibility
