Hello
I am new to this so please forgive me if I have posted this in the incorrect place.
My original HBa1C came out at 48 three months ago, it is now at 45. I am yet to see the Dr but how much should I have expected it to have gone down over these last three months? Am I on the right track!? Any help would be much appreciated!
Hi Verity!
You're headed in the right direction, as lower is better. There's no saying how much change there should have been though, especially as we don't know what measures you implemented. Are you eating low carb? (Practically all carbs turn to glucose once ingested, so cutting them is a sensible first step). Are you on any medication? Do you self test? In any case... Like I said, lower is better, so yay you.
Jo
If you ask 10 people how they define low carb, you get 10 different answers. Thanks for your reply!
I am eating very low carb at the moment and am on no medication. Thanks for your help!
Thank you! Wishing you wonderful HbA1c's.Welcome, Verity.
Like Jo wrote, it depends. Are you on low-carb style of living, are you on meds, etc. Gone through a stressful period, had a virus or other health problems lately. Depends on lots of things.
Here in The Netherlands, a target of 53 is supposed to be ideal if you have diabetes.
I started my insulin life with a Hb1Ac of 92. Am now down to 57, which is probably the best I can hope for. Or so I've been told. But been up to 63, down to 58, up to 60. So fluctuates for me. I am very prone to infections. Which makes a difference on your averages.
Best to see your dr. about it and ask advise what is achievable for you?
@jo...you've come a long way!!! Wishing you to stay in remission.

I have posted a reply about the blood test results on your post entitled ‘Newly Diagnosed Pensioner’I am newly diagnosed as diabetic (diagnosed a week ago) with an HbA1c of 51 mmol.
Some of the other readings quoted on the forum are around the 6 to 8 mmol level.
Other readings are in a percentile scale.
The mmol levels seem to be different scales, perhaps measuring different things. But maybe they’re not. Maybe I should be extremely worried about a reading of 51 mmol?
I wish someone would make it a serious priority to create a post which explains clearly and simply what is going on here.
