Hello i'm a recent T2 (6mnths) so i'm still trying to understand my condition,,, since being diagnosed i've been really successfull at lowering my bg by eliminating my huge fizzy juice intake and reducing my sugar intake in other area's of food also, i thought i was doing really well here because i was managing this whilst reducing my prescription to just about zero (gliclazide and metformin) so i was a bit dissapointed that when i shared this with my gp (who is also T2) he didnt share my enthousiasm for reducing or eliminating my need for drug's to control my bg, so my question ,,,,is does the longer you have this condition determine how easy or difficult it's going to be to control my bg in the future, because at the moment i feel the drug's that i'm taking are reducing my bg too far and i'm having to take regular sugary top up's to reduce the the instances of the rattles, (at least once a day) so the result is i'm putting on weight and i feel i'm trying to control my bg in both direction's rather than one which seem's easier to me,,, anybody understand????????
Re: Recent t2 trying to understand docs drug's and sugar int
It's perfectly possible to control Diabetes with diet only but......can you tell us what your blood sugar levels are before you eat and two hours after ? The 'Rattles' may be high blood sugar !!
If you have been diagnosed fairly quickly then you can reduce the meds as long as you are controlling your Bg levels as per the NICE guidelines. Forget the word 'sugar' and concentrate on the word 'Carbohydrate'. Check packaging and bottles for the total carb amount and try and keep all carbs down so that your are not going up and down like a roller coaster.
Re: Recent t2 trying to understand docs drug's and sugar int
Sue when i was diagnosed bg was 12 or 14 i think, my bg 8-9 before meals (according to my moniter) initially with drugs i had since reduced this to on average of 5 and 7 by almost diet alone, but now i'm around 4.5 and 6.5 with drugs and diet(doctors orders), i'm 99% sure my rattles are low sugar as i recover in about ten to twenty minutes depending on how far gone i am (sometimes it can take up to an hour) my condition is complicated by my work environment as anytype of food or drink consumtion is not allowed and i can be between 5 and 20 minutes walk from my worksite to a clean room, sue an interesting mention of hyper rattles i think i've had these a couple of times and was having difficulty understanding as my body was'nt responding as i thought it should be (funny because my wife picked up on this and i had dissmissed it as her not understanding diabetes, just goes to show lol humble pie for me then) carbos are going to be (or lack of) a big thing for me i'm a carbo freak, also today was the first time i tested my bg after a meal which was 7.5 after two hours which i thought was good. Tio 8)
You should NEVER assume anything Tio, you have to test if you are feeling odd or ill. There is such a thing as a 'false hypo' which will give you hypo symptoms even though your levels are much higher.
That really is the only way to know exactly what your levels are at these times.
