Had my usual Hba1c Blood test recently and had to have a second test of U/E Creatinine. Yesterday, I hot a call from my G/P's Surgery wanting me to take a third Blood Test as my U/E Creatinine levels were still 'slightly raised'. Unfortunately, the Receptionist passing the message could not tell me anything further and won't be able to speak to discuss it with my Doctor for a day or two to find out any more. This has got me quite concerned probably not helped by Googling the subject and scaring myself about my Kidneys about yo pack up. I understand that this test looks at the function of the Kidneys but wonder if anyone else has had similar issues following a blood test ?
I am male aged 55 and diagnosed with type 2, 2 years ago. No medication has been prescribed just diet controlled. I take Medication for high blood pressure and Statins fir Cholesterol.
One thought that struck me and may be affecting my levels was this. During the past six weeks I've been on a diet and eating a lot of Salads during the week comprising fresh Spinach, which I understand is high in Potassium ? Plus I've been spending an hour a day, six days a week in the Gym making sure to take plenty of water. Happily, I've so far lost 10lbs in weightllbweight and I feel absolutely wonderful

Firstly - good to hear that you are feeling well!
I also noticed my last blood results a few days ago showed elevated levels of creatinine, and did a bit of reading about it. I'm no expert, but this is what I gathered:
Apparently, while raised creatinine can be an indicator of impaired kidney function, it is not necessarily a problem in itself. Since it is produced by protein breakdown in the muscles (as occurs during weight training), increased muscle mass and training shortly before the blood was taken could lead to higher than normal levels.

Hi Westley and many thanks for your reply.
I also read this too and did wonder whether my renewed Gym activity plus my liking of fresh Spinach may be to blame. Will probably have to wait until after my repeat Blood test to see what develops and whether I get summoned to the Doctors for a chat
