Hey all,

I was diagnosed at the end of August with diabetes type 2 which was a suprise but also due to carrying the extra weight for so long was also not a suprise!

I went to the doctor's to finally speak to them about possibly suffering from sleep apnea as I was finding myself more and more tired during the day but it ended up being like a shopping trip to B&M.... I went in for 1 thing and ended up coming away with multiple things that I didn't even want!

I was told I have high blood pressure, diabetes type 2, high cholesterol and my liver/kidney readings were a bit on the worrying side so had to go back to have them re-tested. Oh and of course I'm overwight

I'm currently on 40mg gliclazide for breakfast and 80mg gliclazide for my evening meal. The doctor has also asked me to test at breakfast, dinner and before bed along with the nurse telling me I should test before driving, so some days I'm testing at least 5 times a day!

Any way I took this as the wake up call I needed and have since been working away at a better diet, going to the gym and getting on my bike as much as possible to help shed those extra kilos.

Hi Dean. Welcome.

Looks like I beat you on the high BP, I got that badge at 35 years old, but I had to wait a few more years for the T2 diabetes trophy to come my way and was diagnosed in July this year. It took years of ignoring several health risk factors and paying no attention to my diet, but I got there in the end! :hilarious:

Sounds like your post-diagnosis journey is very similar to mine and that T2 diabetes was the preverbial kick up the ****. Glad you've made some really positive changes, if there's anything you need you're in the right place, there are so many helpful people around this forum.

Stick with all the changes, seems like you're doing well.

Hi

Improving your diet is a great way to improve all those numbers. However, if you are cutting carbs check with your team about the gliclazide so you don't drop too low instead.

Not only was I diagnosed with T2, I'd been told I had a fatty liver and my triglycerides were too high.
All improved after I got my sugars down by going low carbs. I actually signed up for a research project for people with non-alcoholic fatty liver a year into low carbing and the scan showed my liver was fine.
My total cholesterol went up a bit although the triglycerides improved within 3 months, but I turned down statins again and my last blood tests showed a total of 4.4 with all the ratios looking great.
