Hi there! I was diagnosed as a type 2 around six months ago and I'm still in denial. I'm having a very hard time coping and none of my friends or family really understand what I'm going through. I was hoping to find someone near my age that might understand my struggles and relate. It would be nice to have someone who understands. Feel free to message me. I am new to this website so forgive me if I can't figure everything out.
 
Hello come here and have a great big Mum hug. Everything will be ok. I am a million years too old to connect with you on any sensible level lol, ( see I typed LOL which is truly tragic). There are boards here for teenagers and others here that know loads and loads about all kinds of diabetes related stuff.

This is what I do know, when I was diagnosed I too felt terrible, I felt guilty and embarrassed and in a fit of worry and fear I anxiety shopped and I dropped a couple of hundred quid on inappropriate metallic shoes and stupid skirts. That lasted about 4 days after which I joined this forum, got a testing meter, started walking ( which has almost turned into a mild jog) and stopped eating masses of gourmet jelly beans and roast spuds.
It is going to feel odd and weird and scary. Even at my age ( 21......34 OK OK 45 shut up!).... it feels confusing and a badge I don't want to wear BUT it gets easier and it's not as difficult as I feared and after a few months my blood sugar if nearly almost consistently in range.
You will be ok. You really will.

Honestly there's not a forum member or newly diagnosed diabetic who hasn't felt it. At times it can feel truly grim, I am surrounded by loving family, brilliant mates and my huge collection of coffee table art books but only someone who has diabetes can really know what it's like. The invisible conditions are hard to deal with emotionally because we aren't obviously ill, it can feel like we are making a big deal out of it all but diabetes is a life changing condition. It IS a big deal BUT it is manageable, it will feel like it is dominating your life at the moment but it won't always.
I have found that knowledge is power, get to know your diabetes, own it, tame it. You are diabetic but it isn't what defines you.
We are many and we are here for you. * groan * ( I should start a t shirt slogan business )
