Recommendations for low cholesterol diet

Hi Everyone. I'm around 2 months diagnosed and am still trying to get my head around the diet.
The sugar seems to be managed quite well so far with Metformin but I have now been told my cholesterol is high, and am also on statins. I'm trying to find recipes that are for T2 diabetic and low cholesterol.
So far I am going around in circles finding either one or the other and I don't know how to match them. Keto seems like a good choice for T2, but is high in fat - so no good for cholesterol I guess? Low cholesterol diets seem to focus on grains and low fat foods, so I'm not sure about added sugars and carbs here.
Any ideas or recommendations would be very welcome. I'm going mad with this and starting to think that I will only be eating 'dust!' Help!
 
Your body produces about 80% of the Cholesterol it NEEDS, the Cholesterol you consume is passing through your body and has no bearing on your Cholesterol level, provided the Blood test is done fasting, as it needs to be. By not doing fasting tests, the result is guaranteed to be higher than it really is. Eating less Cholesterol has the opposite effect to what you would expect. Statins are a pharmaceutical company cash cow.

 
The keto diet will be high in good hdl cholesterol. In a nutshell, hdl cholesterol carries bad ldl cholesterol back to the liver where it is broken down and removed from the body.
I am following a keto diet and my total cholesterol to hdl ratio was 2.4. It needs to be below 6. My GP and specialist were really happy with this value in my latest review on Monday.

 
Only a very small percentage of LDL can be considered bad, the Glycated VSLDL, and without a proper expensive test, you have NO idea if you even have any VSLDL. Forget the good/bad, it is all good and VERY necessary, except for the VSLDL which may not even exist.

Supposed healthy Cholesterol levels come from the marketing division of the Pharmaceutical companies. They fund the research, and if the results don't show what they like, they ignore the studies.
 
Hi and welcome. Metformin doesn't really affect the carbohydrates/glucose you eat in any way. What it does (Handbook of Diabetes) is increase the action of your insulin (medics don't know how it does this) and glucose is lowered mainly because metformin also interferes with the ability of your liver to produce its own glucose.

I am totally not worried about what my cholesterol is estimated to be, but you might be interested to know that it has fallen substantially (I think 18%?) while I've been on a keto, relatively high fat, diet. As others have said, around 80% of your cholesterol is produced naturally by your body (I'd recommend Dr Malcolm Kendrick's book The Clot Thickens which goes into a lot of detail on this) and has relatively little to do with what you eat.

Unfortunately the ideas behind the cholesterol hypothesis and the low-carb approach are really quite different and would be hard to reconcile. Many people here have come down on the side of low carb/keto, because our priority has been managing blood glucose and weight loss, and because the success of the method is so obvious.
