Red blotches after injections

Hi! New to this so not sure if this is the sort of thing that people can help with ... but taking a stab at it - haha!

Recently when I've been doing my injections I'm getting red blotches where I do them, it's only after I do my levemir and doesn't happen with my nova rapid. It sometimes itches too. I change my needles after every use and rotate my injection sites so there aren't any lumps just the red blotches.

Any thoughts or opinions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks x

just giving your topic a bit of a bump this morning to see if we can get some levemir users responding :)

I have never used levemir but.............. is it possible the cartridge has gone "off"
Have you tried changing to a new cartridge straight from the fridge ?

Have you spoken to your DSN ( Diabetic specialist nurse) to see if she has come across anyone else with the same issue ?

Is this a recent reaction - or has Levemir always caused this? Does it always happen or just when you inject in certain places?
 
Hi @minniemac- this happened to me a few years' ago with Levemir. My DSN switched me to Lantus & I had no more problems. Hope you get sorted.
 
Hi! Thank you all so much for getting back to me! I was on lantus and kept getting dawn phenomen (not sure how to spell that ) so they put me on lantus so I could split the dose. I've been on it for 3 years and the blotches have only started the last few weeks. I thought it was maybe a bad batch of insulin so tried a different packet of pens but it's still doing it. I inject on my legs, I've never tried anywhere else so that may be the next thing to try. I'm at the diabetes clinic this week which is fortunate so I think you're right I should ask and see what the specialty nurse says.

@minniemac , ask your DSN to examine your injection sites to see what they think is causing this reaction, but for your basal insulin why don't you try using your bum, I mainly injected my basal insulin into my bum when on injections.
