Red blotches on feet and lower legs

Hi there
I am a new member and hope you can help me with a problem. A couple of years ago I started to see red blotches on the surface of both my feet. My diabetic nurse just said 'circulation' and left it at that! The marks are now in clusters and are moving up my lower legs. I have no other circulation problems. Any thoughts would be gratefully received. I am Type 2, treated with Metformin.

It could actually be a skin condition. How is the control of your diabetes? Some skin conditions are more likely to occur in diabetics and even more likely if control isn't great.... psoriasis for example. It can start in small patches and develop more and more (usually mirrored on both sides of the body). I'd see your GP if I were you, to get a diagnosis. Be warned though, it took me a LONG time to get a proper diagnosis and referral to a specialist dermatologist because the GP insisted it was just a fungal thing.

Of course, it may not be a skin condition at all... either way, being diabetic, I'd definitely go to see your GP! Good luck!

I'd second what picklebean said about seeing your gp, if you get no joy ask to be referred to the Dermatology Dept of your local hospital.

Hi Bizbeth, and welcome,

Well, you seem to be in, so... Welcome to the community/forum!
Sorry about the blotches, but you really should see someone about them: we can't diagnose on here. If getting an appointment is difficult, try taking a pic and sending that to the GP's, along with any other symptoms. (Do the blotches itch, are they sore, do they burn, all that sort of stuff). While diabetes can make a lot of things worse, it doesn't have to be the cause of this, as skin conditions can just plain occur... Having high blood sugars sometimes can make them worse though, especially if it's a fungal or bacterial infection. Whatever the case, you'd be better off asking someone certified for help, because it could well be you need medication to clear whatever it is, up. Be safe, ask for assistance.

Good luck!
Jo
