Red blotches on knuckles

For some months now I have had red blotches on top of my knuckles, with several small lumps underneath. They aren't sore. I have asked my diabetes doc and my GP what are they, but both are puzzled. My GP tested me for gout but all clear. Anyone got any clues?

Just a stab in the dark, have you developed an allergy to something? The skin on my hands is very vulnerable to contact dermatitis and I get red blotches every now and then.

Doubt its an allergy but will keep an open mind. Thanks. I am allergic to penicillin and of course blue cheese, but am very careful.
