Red wine before food - experiment

I have also been given the same advice by the nurse at my surgery! I think you are absolutely correct in how liver processes the alcohol first.

The most important thing about any experiment is repeatability of the results. With this in mind, tonight and tomorrow night I plan to 're-run the ' Whisky and soda' experiment again. And again and again on Monday if necessary. ( I think it will be)

I'm with you on that nut head- I'll be repeating my tests this evening all in the name of science of course

There is no sugar in alcohol, shouldn't make any difference. Alcohol consumption for diabetics are the same guidelines as normal people, moderation.

Whilst true, very few drinks are pure alcohol, it's the base syrup that the fermentation occurs from, or the flavours added at the final stages that do.

I'm very good. I just allow myself a few glasses a week. Red wine seems to help my bs readings. But I've no idea why

Snap. I make sure I stay under the recommended units per week, but the wine does wonders for my BS and helps me maintain my weight amongst other good things.

if my fasting BS levels dont start to come down... I may need to skip the liquid lunch.. and start with red wine for breakfast :***:

Ha ha. Oh yes indeedy! I'm very fond of Rioja too...and the medical research shows a small glass of wine daily can protect your heart too. So all in all its medicinal
Now try to get your GP to give you repeat prescriptions for 28 days worth of red wine (and lets see you get the pharmacist to fill that script)

Red wine in Carbs and Cals is just 170 calories per 250 ml, or as I sometimes work it out 510 calories for a bottle! An occasional Sunday treat you understand, as once opened I wouldn't want it to go off!

Good luck dibbles... I hate red wine but even I'm drinking it in the name of science

It's more like 270 calories a glass, or 810 a bottle.
