I have managed to stay below the 20mg carbs a day, which has also helped with weight loss (although not dramatic)... as you say David, I will see what nursie saysThese are results that you have achieved by a combination of low carb (how low?) and medication.
500 mg isn't a lot and there are those who will say it doesn't do anything until you're taking 2 gms (4 X 500mg) and some will say even then that it doesn't work. It's a very individual thing. It's worth asking, and although I wouldn't recommend it, try it and see what happens. You'd have to be very vigilant and honest with yourself. Just see what nursie says.
I have been on 500mg of Metformin daily since my diagnosis in July, and have an appointment with the Nurse today to review my progress and medication.
What do you think the chances are of me getting a reduction in the meds as for the last seven days i have averaged 5.5 and fourteen days 5.5 also. I peaked at 7.2 and dipped to my lowest 4.3
This coincides with the start of a low carb diet at the beginning of August.
Yes that makes sense, HbA1c I understand can be every 3 months, and having read threads on meter readings, I should have guessed that !! Seeing the nurse this afternoon, all will be made clear no doubt then !!I doubt the nurse would automatically reduce your dose without a review HbA1c as she is unlikely to be swayed by your own meter readings, but there is no harm in asking if that is what you really want.
Well done though on your great start - excellent numbers.
