hi all,
my overall BG levels are under control with my regime of diet control LC & calorie intake ( about 1200 daily), & exercise. However, i eat dinner which consist of leafy vegetables & some carbs but however i am still stuck with a fasting readings of 7-8 mmo/L very disheartening for me.
Any suggestions?

@Lin 26 I don't like high blood glucose levels either. It's unsettling. I'm sorry this is happening to you.

Perhaps it's time to trade out the processed foods made with flour and sugar for healthier whole foods. Some type 2's do well on a whole foods, plant based diet - (both Neal Barnard, MD and Joel Fuhrman MD have written books on this diet for type 2 diabetics) - others do well on the low carbohydrate diet. I personally use the LCHF diet, started a year ago - (learn more at http://www.dietdoctor.com/lchf). No medication, last A1c was 5.4%. Have had type 2 diabetes for about 10 years now. Try to walk 1 to 3 miles daily.

What do you think? What do you want to do?
So with your LCHF you are off meds? sound pretty good. I do run 5 times a week about 8km ( 6 miles) daily & manage to bring my average down from 15 to about 7-8 , but fasting readings are my BIGGEST challenge now.
Any suggestions are welcome. thanks

Hi Dominic it is always hard to bring down your fasting levels as you cannot really have muc control over them. There are some members who have tried many things and I will tag @Brunneria who had a long running thread with experiments and she can hopefully help you firther.

For me I find fasting for a period of days works to reset my fasting level. Have you tried this?

Gooday Andrew,
Since being diagnosis about 3 months ago, i have tried a variety of methods, these being:

  • cutting off 60-70% of my carbs intake & replacing them with vegs & proteins
  • intensifying my exercises, i do HIT 1.5 hours 5 times a week
  • cut down my pub visits to 1 time a week ( painful)
  • eating about 1200 calories only about 5 days a week
  • on Mets 2 x 500g
  • taking daily supplements of Nutrilite ( multi-vitamin & minerals)
  • drinking Fennugreek tea & eating bitter gourd ( melon) 2-3 time a week as a main
Since then i managed to bump my readings down from 15- about 7-8 on average with discipline ( painful), but i am still disappointed with my FASTING readings in the mornings as it never seems to be lower than 7.0 mmo/L.
Why?
I have read all the suggested methods on this sites,( eg: eating a little fat/ protein before bed, apple cider with water,) but no real results.
I like to know more how to incorporate fasting into a working schedule as i do about 10 hours a day?
May i also know your what you drink on fast days or eat?

Cheers

Hi @DominicLaiLaw I am on a fast period at the moment and it has been running since Monday - so day 5 and I have managed to bring my fasting level down a little in that time.

My fast day consists of 20g porridge made with full fat milk
The rest of the day (normally at lunch) I eat
Some chopped up raw carrot
A handful of raw spinach and lettuce
A few raspberries and blueberries (about a handful together)
and a handful of hazelnuts/almonds/walnuts
A couple of slices of cold meat

and that is it.

Interestingly I find my fasting level is directly linked to the hollowness of my abdomen. I have no proof but I think this equates to the amount of stores in my liver.
