Hi!
I've just watched a documentary that looked at the impact of sweeteners on bg and I'm now wondering if this has impacted any of you.

So, here is the question: how soon after LCHF did you see a significant drop in your FBG and did/do you use sweeteners?

Thanks!!

My Hba1c dropped from 77 to 51 in three months. This was after 2months of LCHF.
I add sweeteners to coffee which i take once to twice a day. Also if I want a sweet desert I add sweeteners. Easy recipes from Low carb recipes in the forum

My HbA1C reduced from 49 to 36 through 5 months on LCHF. I wanted to lose the sweet tooth rather than feed it with fake chemicals, so tried to abstain from anything sweetened. (I'd say I achieved 80% success) That way the natural sweetness of the food comes across (for example double cream, or some veggies). I therefore avoid sweeteners, but still occasionally use xylitol (Total Sweet) - maybe once a week. I used to use it in mug cakes (and realised I don't really enjoy them so haven't made them in a while), but still add it to tahini (for halva-like dessert) and chai tea (with almond milk and lots of spices). Oh, and when making jellies or panna cottas, which I haven't done since the summer.

I dropped my HbA1c from 99 to 53 in 3 months. I cannot claim LCHF was responsible since I was changing many things during this period. However, I was starting LCHF, and was starting to cut out the obvious hard hitters, and also introducing LC replacements such as cauli mash and almond flour. Currently (XMAS excepted) I am doing more LCHF, and am currently on course for next HbA1c to be around 46 or lower. i have used sweetners for a couple of years now, and tend to go for sucralose based one that seems to suit me. i have not tested it for bgl effect, but then I still have milk in my coffee, so judge the effects to be similar, and small. I also use sweetner in porridge. (before anyone jumps down my neck about high carbing, I know. If i do not break fast with a dose of low GI carbs, then I get a liver dump in the afternoon. With a light breakfast I avoid that and still get lowish levels that I am happy with.)

PS I found the aspartame sweetners depleted my sodium levels in my blood panel results. Since changing to sucralose, this effect has gone away.

My HbA1c dropped from 88 to 32 in 3 months, after starting Low Carbing on day 1.

My FBG didn't really fall below 6 ish until about 4 months, and starting intermittent fasting around 5 months after diagnosis has helped push it into the 4's.

I was never a heavy sugar user, so the need for artificial sweeteners hasn't been there. We still have part of a 1Kg bag of Xylitol left in the cupboard.

It's all very interesting. I definitely use too much even though I thought I didn't have that much of a sweet tooth as I prefer savoury over sweet but still need it in my Greek yoghurt and coffee.

I'm going to experiment to see what happens if I quit Diet Coke. I may start on Monday!!
