i am now in the process of getting the pump,i am going to change my insulin on friday,the doctor said we have to try this first,then i am goin to the endocrine ward to have blood samples and an injection of synacthen,then he mentioned about controlling my carbohydrates,how long does all this take,i am lookin forward to not having to inject myself 4 times a day after 30yrs

I was wondering how long it will all take too - providing I get approved. I didn't realise that NHS do not fund pumps and each case has to go before the Council for funding

Hi guys, I wasn't allowed a pump until I had completed a carb counting course? Carb counting is crucial for effective pump management so if you aren't offered a course there are some online courses you can take (or so I believe). If you search this forum you can find some fab info!

as for how long does it take, I asked for my pump last June and got the pump in February this year. some people have quicker experiences and others longer, it will depend on your local PCT and also the support of your DN team. When my pump was ordered it only took about 3 weeks until I was connected

As for no more injections after 30 years, I hear that!! :lol: BUT there is a lot of work with a pump, you will have to test more than you have ever tested before and while this will reduce slightly at some point, you will always test more than you ever did. But then that is only because you can make the pump work so well for you if you manage it efficiently

The NHS do fund insulin pumps... But most PCT's rather not though, so NICE has produced guidelines which the PCT has to follow, if you fit the critera then the PCT is legally obliged to fund your Pump...

As to how long it takes, is really down to the individual clinic, some once the decision is made then very quickly follow through others well drag there feet...

Most times when clinics are saying, you have to tried or attended this or that before we can go ahead with or saying that only xx amounts of pumps are funded per year, so waiting list are doing nothing but ilegally stalling...

If the consultant decides that there clinical judgment is that you require pump thearpy, then the PCT has to pay end off
