I now feel much more motivated to lose weight since watching the diabetes epidemic: tonight on itv. after I went through the worst week of my life with falling into a hypoglycaemic coma on May 23rd. I know that not everyone is going to like it on here, but I am ditching low carb diets and pursuing a low fat diet suggested to me by my GP, Diabetic Nurse, my parents as well as I am back living with them (they even recorded the programme on itv for me and them to watch). I now also attend a diabetic support group which has been very supportive and had some really good recipes for low fat and low calorie meals. Tomorrow is my 3rd meeting with the support group and tomorrow's topic of discussion is which diet is more healthy for you; Low carb or Low fat.
I think that tonight's show was an eye-opener for me and for my parents as my dad now has prediabetes, but one let down of the show was that all of the attention was on Type 2 and I still can't believe they nicknamed it The Silent Killer. It was informative though and my parents suggested the idea that I should try the Newcastle Diet.

Low fat is fine. Just be careful any food you eat does not substitute sugar for the fat.Pleased you are feeling so motivated to get your diabetes under control and that you have good support I know a lot on here do not agree with low fat but if it works for you that is all that matters
Yes akindrat18.akindrat18 are you on medication? Might I suggest you find an activity that you like and do it every day. There are people on the forum who fit activities into their lifestyle in very imaginative ways, its finding away that works for you.
I reduced my carb intake to max 150gms and it has made a massive difference to me . That said diabetes is such an individual condition , best advice I would give is to test you blood sugar and see hiw different foods effect you as an individual.
Keep posting and keep reading . Good luck .

Yes akindrat18.
I suggest you have a look at the thread Jamrox started, 'a new you in 42'. Lots of ideas on how to include exercise in a daily routine. Lots of support and encouragement too. Jamrox really deserves a prize for this.
It is such a success, though Jamrox. All from your idea, which has gained momentum thanks to the humour, support and commitment of everyone.I only started it Pipp , its all of you that have made it a success and inspire me every day. I love the innovative ways that people fit 30 minutes activity into their lives , some great ideas and some very funny people who make me laugh.

I laugh a lot through the posts on that thread, but more importantly I am exercising more. I knew it was imminent that I would be starting again, but the impetus was your thread.
No, think that was peacetrain. Cannot claim credit for someone else being creative.
Everything for me is looking bright and clear. I have started taking xencial from today, my gp has reduced my dose of gliclazide to one a day, On Monday I will be getting a phone call from my personal fitness motivator for the first time and hopefully will meet with him or her later in the week. I now have a online job, a part time job, a volunteer job, two interviews next week for intern jobs and also taking a free online training course.
I have been reducing my intake of diet coke by having fresh & ice-cold cucumber water. I've also started taking part in the 30 Day Ab Challenge on Facebook with my parents and tonight I had a contest with my dad where we had to straighten our arms, level them to the shoulders and see who will drop their arms first. My parents still eat sugary foods, but since my mum got made redundant the family has been having homemade Spag Bol, Chicken Casserole, Bacon and Cheese Oatcakes, a Fry Up and tonight Steak with peas, mushrooms, onions, tomatos and chips.
I don't feel depressed anymore and I think that I need my parents more as my gp looked through my previous hba1c's and found that my lowest reading was this time last year when I was with my parents after my 1st year at uni as it was 5.8, she also said that I should consider staying with my parents when I go back to uni as my blood sugars increase when I'm away from my parent managing it on my own.
The support group that I have been too has bee an amazing experience for me and wouldn't have heard about if it wasn't for a friend of my dad's who told me about it as my dad's friend has been diabetic for 15 years and is diet controlled with a low fat diet and has lost 15 stone which is what I am hoping to get rid of.
I am huge diet coke drinker zand, my family all drink coke and they used to get through a 1.75 litre bottle within a night, but now they get through the bottle in 4 days. A 1.75 litre bottle of diet coke citrus zest lasts me over a week. The cucumber water has been lovely to drink and I do a jug of it the night before and place it in the fridge so that it is nice and cool. I have had one little downside this week which is that I now I have to buy 5XL shorts and size 50 inch waist trousers.
