Repeat bloods so soon

I had hb1ac 51, fasting glucose 6.3 and cholesterol 6.8 last Monday and GP wants repeat fasting bloods this Monday! Isn't it too soon!!!

They do usually say a repeat fasting test should be done about 2 weeks after the first one. That's what I have been told to do by the doctor when I have had a repeat one but maybe one week is fine

I can't see the point of doing two Hba1c's so close together since it can't have changed much in a week. The fasting glucose and the Hba1c look a little at odds since one could diagnose you as diabetic and the other one wouldn't. Maybe he is just trying to decide on the diagnosis and needs confirmation.

Yes I thought about that but only if you fail the first one and @neety41 passed. You have to be over 7 to be diagnosed by the fasting test.

With an Hba1c test having been done I can't see much need for a fasting test anyway.

It is probably a good idea.

We all have fluctuating fasting blood glucose, and some docs seem to require 2 tests over 7mmol/l for a diagnosis.

It is the HbA1c that is best done several months apart, since that measures 'average bg' which won't change much in a few weeks.

The NICE guidelines urge that any discrepency between HbA1c (yours is diabetic) and fasting blood glucose (yours is low prediabetic) should be investigated, to check why. It could be a bad test/lab process, it could be that your fasting bg was lower than usual... Lots of reasons. I would go with the flow and ask the nurse what tests she has been asked to re-take and discuss it with her. Should shed more light.

Hope that helps.

Well my hb1ac is now 53 and fasting glucose is still 6.3!! I feel better as I am sticking to eating properly and losing weight which is a bonus-just need a GP appt to discuss now

'Normal' fasting can be up to 6.1, so you're borderline.

Hba1c is in the diabetic range though.

So the GP will be wanting to confirm the apparent discrepancy.
