Repeat Fasting Glucose/Hba1c. Panicking about why.

I had a blood test done 10 days ago just to give the doctors a general picture (it’s a long story but I have severe health anxiety and they decided do a check up on my bloods)

The following day the receptionist phoned to say that the glucose and Hba1c needed to be repeated. I started panicking but she said the doctor had put down that it was routine and not urgent. The doctor called a few days later to discuss my results from the first bloods but she said they were all fine and just needed one repeating so would also need a full blood picture and I’m sure she said my diabetic bloods and thyroid bloods were fine but now doubting myself.

I picked the repeat Blood forms up yesterday and next to the fasting glucose/Hba1c it says suspected diabetes diagnosis. I called the doctors and the receptionist said this is just routine what they put on the form and not to worry but I am.

I just don’t understand why it’s being repeated and why the doctor didn’t even mention anything wrong when she phoned?

I’m already struggling with waiting to have a biopsy and now I have this on top, just finding it hard to cope. I’ve booked my second blood test for tomorrow morning. I’m 39 and BMI 21.9

Welcome to the forum.

It's not unusual to get bloods repeated, so don't worry about it. When you get the results, specifically ask for your hba1c number.

Good luck

Thank you for replying, I’ve put my birth year in wrong so taken it off now.

Get a copy of the results, not unusual for drs to say everything is fine. Not trying to freak you out, just always ask for a copy of the results so you have your own records. What one doctor may think needs looking at again or more closely, another will just say all is fine. Don't fret about it, it could also be lab errors or another reason to take another look. If there was something wrong, you'd be told about it. Good luck!

@Melie81

Not sure if this will help so stop reading now if you are really anxious..

Maybe knowing that there is a small problem that you can take action and fix might be far better long term than not knowing?

If it’s something that can be fixed then I’m okay with that. I know my diet isn’t good even though I look healthy and exercise regularly so it would be a major kick up the backside. I’m just so worried that if I’m diagnosed T1 or T2 it’s not reversible and I’m already struggling with my health anxiety as it is.

T1 is a autoimmune condition and insulin is the only way.

T2 is a metabolic problem and we can't process carbohydrates.

See the link in my signature. Most of us control our numbers by diet.
