just a thought, i have only just realised the huge responsibility you take on when replying to to someones post, sat and re-read my reply to someone 15 times at least almost deleted 5 times, i am in no way knowledgable about the technical stuff as a newbie so when i read those posts i obviously keep my mouth well and truely closed, so when a post comes along where i think hey i can offer some encouragment in i go, but how do you know you arent just going to say the slightest wrong thing that makes things worse for them, i applaud you guys for your replies which are amazing, i myself will be very careful in the future.

It is indeed a responsibility and I am trying to put together a few rules to govern my own behaviour. I may get it wrong from time to time.

I always read a post from an OP that has had no replies at all. I always read it carefully to see if there is anything between the lines.
I ask myself whether I know anything about the question they ask or the subject they are writing about.
If I have some personal experience of the topic I may answer but I try to address my reply to the OP and I try to stay on topic but I may join in a valid debate.
There have been a few examples where a poster has done nothing to help the OP but has sniped at other posters and in one case I have noticed there were quotes which were never actually said. This is just trolling really and I try not to feed them.

Who knows, I may get it right one day.

Hi Andy, no one here is an expert at best we know how to control our own bg levels and thats it, but everyone has an opinion and all the replies to posts here are just that really, opinions.

Giving out and out advice is always going to be tricky as no one here is a doctor and cant really know anything about the poster other than what is posted, so general advice is always best and advice to speak with a professional where appropriate is always good too, sometimes people are reluctant to bother their doctors when if they did it would put their mind at ease.

Dont feel that you cant reply because you have limited knowledge, we all have limited knowledge just contribute to the community when and where you can and where you feel comfortable doing so, even if it is to empathise with another poster, we can all offer support and after all this is a support forum :D

Thanks sid, i always enjoy your responses, you are great! (if a little bonkers 8) )

Good post Andy :D but dont praise our sid too much ,we dont want a big headed bonkers

Hi Andy, I know exactly what you mean. A number of members have been in here for quite
some time who have a vast amount of knowledge regarding diabetes and how best to reply .

I tend to shy away when it comes to answering posts concerning deep matters of diabetes.
I reply only when I feel I confident enough to hopefully know what I'm talking about.
(on numerous occasions to posts unrelated to diabetes)

There will come a day when I know I can confidently reply to serious issues however,
until then I shall continue to offer some input as best I can as I'm eternally grateful
to the quality of the forum and the majority of member's responses.

Look around the different threads, there's sure to be one or two posts you'll discover
you can reply to.

All the best for now.
weewillie.
