How do you do it? I thought I was stronger but I had dessert in the restaurant. Shouldn't have but did anyway....

Hi Deb

What is your motivation? If it is to stave off diabetes, maybe weigh up which is more important to you...pudding or T2? Stay focused.

My motivation was to show my dietitian what she could do with her unhealthy plate o_O Also to improve my fuzzy eyes. This kept me from giving in to temptation.

It's not always easy. Best of luck.

I do not want to progress to proper diabetes as I've seen what it can do first hand with my aunt.

I got caught up in the moment. I think I may take my own cheesecake next time. Restaurant will prob have an issue but I clearly have an issue with ice cream!!

My eyes go fuzzy too. I thought it was just being tired but maybe not....

Having a nice dessert as an exception is fine as long as it is an exception. When we go out to a restaurant we try to have a starter rather than dessert assuming we have more than one course. It's best to avoid seeing the dessert menu in front of you!

I think it is easier if you just say no to the menu, or don't walk down the aisles in the supermarket that have all those things that tempt you. I've never had a big sweet tooth but crisps and breads call to me like the Sirens so now I just don't buy them and OH has been really kind in not asking to have them either. It will be harder when junior home from Uni so I've told him to eat his rubbish outside or buy it himself in town. If you are not yet diabetic, surely that is will power enough - I'd give anything to have found that out in time and not be on the pathway I now am. Maybe stick a list of the complications on your phone and read it when you are thinking of reading the dessert list instead. It is hard because so much of modern life seems to have become entwined with eating and eating the wrong things, but it's all about stopping seeing food as a reward, or treat or whatever crutch it is to you, and learning to reward yourself with other things including most importantly, good health.

I think a lot depends on the type of desert and what you eat it with.

Sneaking them in after a large, heavy protein/fat meal is good. Eating them alone is not.
This may be one reason I am a tad porky

A baked cheesecake or creme brûlée are much less likely to spike me than icecream or a gateau.

The cheese board always works, so long as you minimise the crackers.

Back in February I had the wonderful experience of a Death by Chocolate blobby thing (not cake), with its own weight of clotted cream. Divine, and didn't even register on my BG!!! :hungry:

theres no answer really, for me strangely the hardest times are when im alone and no one can see me cheat or more importantly can witness my strength in abstainence lol i have spent so much time being a tosser and lecturing everyone about food, i cant be weak in front of anyone, which has definately kept me on track in the past, at home, my wife only makes the healthy stuff for me, theres no question of anything else so thats easy, its the in between times when im on my own and theres no risk of a shocked face when i fall from grace that its difficult, its hard though at times, with afters at a restaurant, you could perhaps have you favourite (healthy) desert waiting at home and think, no im saving myself for ........ ill enjoy that when i get home, that way, you get to have your cake and eat it, you get the gloating feeling of denying the naughty moment and get to eat the afters as wel hehe its a game :) and winning the game is rather important :)

Fear drives me.

When everyone else has a dessert I have a cappuccino. I've been drinking my coffee black, no sugar since 1980 but I have a cappuccino once a week. There are carbs in it but no where near what most restaurant desserts contain.

I can't believe I'm the same person I was 6 months ago. Diabetes was the incentive I needed to begin living my life again.

At the present time there is no way I even want to try eating the foods I used to eat. The only chocolate or sweet stuff I eat is 85% or above.

Of course it's hard work ... Tough times, and there may come a time I will fall off the wagon but I will try my level best not to. If I do fall off then I'll be running here for help. ;-)

Coffee is a **** good idea! Never thought of that.

I don't plan on eating out anytime soon - I just seemed to have got caught a couple of times this week.

Thing is, I had a key lime pie chilling in fridge for me too! It didn't turn out as Limey as I'd have liked so I need to play with the recipe to find a happy medium.

That's a shame about your key lime pie. I found mine very limey. I used two sachets of Simply Delish jelly and hardly any truvia (I am never sure how much of that stuff to use so just use a sprinkle). Maybe you could grate some zest over the top of it.

At a the plan and use less cream cheese

And I didn't sweeten the base which def needs some!

I think you use half of truvia - check the pack - there's a chart on there x

I used Philadelphia. I had to give a big bit of pie away as I was in danger of scoffing the lot

Another tip I read for the base is to substitute a bit of the butter for coconut oil. This might add sweetness.

Ooops...your temptation thread has turned into a pie thread! Sorry lol

Let's face it, life's all about cake!!
